CNN reporting Hunter shot by Cheney has minor heart attack

The fellow hunter who was shot and wounded by Vice President **** Cheney has suffered a minor heart attack after a piece of birdshot migrated to his heart, a hospital spokesman said Tuesday.

Harry Whittington, 78, is in stable condition in intensive care and will remain hospitalized for up to seven days, hospital officials said.

"Some of the birdshot appears to have moved and lodged into part of his heart ... in what we would say is a minor heart attack," said Peter Banko, administrator at Christus Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial.

Do you think that if Whittington passes away, Cheney will be charged with anything? I don't think he will, but I bet if it was me who accidently shot someone in the face and chest I'd already be sitting in jail.

No way!

But I am glad this made major news. I am not a fan of hunting for sport at all!

I agree! And if Bill Clinton had done this, the press coverage would have been nuts.

I am sure I will be flamed but I hate hunting. I feel for the man who was shot but at least it brings negative attention to hunting.

I don't like hunting for sport, but if someone is hunting to feed their family, I don't have an issue with it. Hunters who eat the game they shoot actually have a lot of respect for nature and animals and only take what they need. IMO.

Wow, though I don't like Cheney, I feel bad for him. Imagine the guilt he's feeling right now. But of course, I also feel bad for the man who was shot.

He might not get charged. I personnally know of 1 person who shot someone by mistake while hunting (nothing critical, man shot was out of hospital ina couple of hours), and I know a guy who was shot.

Neither set of people went to court. It was an accident, and lack of communication on their parts. When hunting with people, usually you talk on the walkie talkie constantly letting the others know where your exact location is.

I agree with you. I agree with the Native American philosophy of hunting. Doing it for sport, I do not like.

I don't think you'll get flamed. I HATE sport hunting. And its amazing how many people do it. I had a whole conversation with some people in my Hartford office about this. They ALL hunt. Yes, they eat what they hunt, but I still don't get it.

I just don't understand people who hunt for food, where there is a supermarket a few minutes from their home. To me, its just justifying hunting for sport.

I have no problem with people who live in the middle of no where and need to hunt to eat. Although that is becoming rarer and rarer these days.

Re: CNN reporting Hunter shot by Cheney has minor heart attack

I don't think anyone should get flamed. It's all people's opinions. I never met a hunter until I met my bf. His whole family, 75% live upstate and hunt.

Personally, there are 2 types of hunters I believe. The first one is the uneducated one. THE KILLER. He feels he is superior because he has a gun and will shoot anything, including a spike(small, young male deer) or doe. They give many hunters a bad rap.

Then there are the hunters that hunt because they are passionate about it. He studies and watches their trails during the summer, goes out spotting for them at night time, uses the moon phases, the time of the year, the wind, etc as a science to where to find a buck. This hunter would never shoot a spike, almost never a doe, (unless there is an overpopulation of them and is needed) and when he shoots the buck, shoots it in the exac tspot where the buck will drop dead and not feel pain.

People eat chicken , meat, lobsters. Somebody kills these animals. A good hunter takes meat for him and his family and gives the rest of the meat and skin to charity (homeless shelter). He also only shoots 1-2 per year, not like a killer who wants to shoot everything in sight.

But, everyone has their own opinions. I do believe there should be a stricter way to obtain and mantain a hunting license though.
