Is anybody not planning on having a baby shower?
My family and coworkers keep asking me if I want one but I am a little superstitious. I have told them no but they keep trying to convince me otherwise. Is there anyone else not having one?

I was convinced I didn't want a shower...until everyone kept telling me I have to have one I will admit...I let myself be talked into it...and it's been really fun so far

Re: Is anybody not planning on having a baby shower?
I don't think I'm having one. My family lives out of state and they are busy with my brother's wedding this summer. My DH's family is local, but no one has mentioned doing anything. I'm 22 weeks now, so I think if they were going to do anything they would have said something. I have to admit I'm a little sad about it, but I'll get over it. I'd say if people want to throw you a shower go for it!

I am not having one - it's not for religious reasons in my case - I just didn't want one.

Re: Is anybody not planning on having a baby shower?
I didn't want one either for superstitious and cultural reasons. When I was around 36 weeks, my SIL threw me a small shower about 15 people, cause my family thought a first baby should have a good send off.
I was glad she did it, it was a good pick me up and was soo sweet and I did get things I didn't think people would buy for me that were$$$

Re: Is anybody not planning on having a baby shower?
My family doesn't usually do baby showers, but my best friend gave me one with just her sisters, (my extended family), my immediate family and DH's Mom and sister. It was great!!!!

Re: Is anybody not planning on having a baby shower?
funny you posted this today - all last weekend and today I have been getting totally pressured from family and friends to have one. I know they bring up good points - that you need so much stuff and it's good to get some of it at a shower, but I just really don't want one. Seems like too much trouble, too much to ask of people...but I said I'd think about it

I'm Jewish...which is why I didn't want to in the first place...but then I got pushed into it, and so far, like I said, it's been fun picking stuff out and registering (aside from the nightmare of trying to pick a car-seat and stroller )

I feel the same way, but I'm always attending showers and really enjoy the giving part - so why not try to enjoy the receiving part

I actually enjoy going to showers for friends and close family, esp. family because we really never get together as a family except for once or twice a year unless there's an occasion. I only don't like it when its obligatory and I don't really know the person.
I definitely think its ok to register and just let people send a gift if and when they chose.

I am not pregnant, rather TTC and I will register but will not bring anything into my home until my child is born for the same reason. If people want to throw me a shower, I wouldn't be upset, I would just leave all gifts at my mother's house or at my IL's. I am too superstitious. My sister had her entire layette and baby furniture picked out and once she delivered, it was received and washed by the time my nephew was home - 2 days. At most, I would paint the room. Thats it.

not having a shower. i did register for a few things, but I am not crazy about showers, and I don't live near family so that was that.

That is actually a very good idea. Believe it or not but we actually already started getting baby gifts and we have been leaving it at my dad's house
