West Hempstead
Is there any area that we need to stay away from when looking in West Hempstead?

Re: West Hempstead
I heard to stay away from the "Lakeview Section". i think that's the name of it...it's "Lake" something....my friend lives in Franklin Square so she knows that area pretty good. West Hempstead is a nice area

Re: West Hempstead
I live in West Hempstead. The only area I wouldnt live in is Lakeview. It is the part near the Hempstead Lake State Park, and the Lake View Riding Academy.
North of Hempstead Tpke is VERY nice, right on the border of Garden City.

Re: West Hempstead
Is there anyway for me to tell - by school district, zip code, etc, what's "lakeview" and what's not?

Re: West Hempstead
I have lived in the area for my whole life... To be honest with you the school district is not so good... it is all apart of the Elmont school district... You might get lucky and find a house in the RVC School district ... But they are right Lakeview is not so good.. it is located east of the railroad tracks in west hempstead....

I grew up there too
When I went through the schools, the district was good, but I heard it went downhill the past 5 years or so. Unless something changed recently, its not part of Elmont schools. WH is it's own school district.
The area north of Hempstead Tpke is nice. North of Hemp Tpke and by St. Thomas church is very nice, but Hempstead school district. That SD is having sooo many problems, I'd avoid for now. I also like the area around the high school and Cornwell school.
Like someone said above, east of LIRR tracks is Lakeview-not that nice, in my opinion.
I'll be glad to help with anymore questions.

If you are looking on a map, and the house is REALLY close to the SS State parkway/Eagle Avenue or Hempstead Lake Park, then its the Lakeview section.

Re: West Hempstead
i grew up in West Hempstead- behind Echo Park.. i agree with everyone the Lakeview section behind the train tracks isnt that great... I loved living there though. the district isnt great- although my two sisters go there, they are 16 and 14. they were given the choice to go to private school but they didnt want to.....

Re: West Hempstead
I've lived in West Hempstead for most of my life too. We live in the co-ops by the West Hempstead train station (Hempstead Gardens stop), which is pretty nice. However, if you go around the corner a bit, you're going into Hempstead and that's not a good area. Lakeview is the opposite end of where we live...it's not so good either.
I agree, the school district has really gone down from when I was a student, which was over 10 years ago.
The nicer areas are behind the high school (by Dogwood Avenue) and around Echo Park.
