BTDT Moms of children that have been weaned from the bottle- Sleeping question
My daughter is 15 months old. She presently still takes 3 bottles a day One in the morning when she gets up, one for naps and one at bedtime. Next week I want to start weaning her off the bottle. How should I change her sleeping routine. Right now after we clean up and do all we have to do, she sits in my lap in the glidder and drinks a bottle. I put her down before she is completely out but she has to be groggy otherwise it's a nightmare. Right now I am reducing the ounces in her bottle and not even letting her finish that. It's not about the milk itself for her, the bottle is her sleepy tigger I guess.
Please help me.

i used to give my kids water in a bottle at night because i was afraid of all the sugar in milk on their teeth causing bottle rot. it worked for us! good luck

Ok that's not a bad idea either but I guess my question is when I wean her off the bottle do I give her a sippy cup of milk let's say and then put something else into our nighttime routine like reading (we do A LOT of this during the day not at bedtime) in place of rocking with milk or water?

i would give a sippy cup of water and read to her that sounds like a great idea. or (don't laugh) i used to play music and "slow" dance with my boys! it always put them to sleep.

We used sips of water, read one story with a book & one story that I make up. Usually the story that I make out has parts that they can add in (Maddie opened the door & saw an ____" - then she says kangaroo, etc).

I would give water in the sippy - this way she is still get at least some of the sucking motion she is used to with a bottle. I gave my kids this, then we sing a song (usually off key) like the ABC's, Twinkle Twinkle etc... and read a story. Then I alwys end it with a special saying I have for each of them and lots of kisses!!!

When we were weaning DD off the bottle, we started heating some milk and giving it to her in a straw cup before naps and bedtime. The warm milk is soothing, and it continued the routine of milk before sleep. It worked beautifully.

Re: BTDT Moms of children that have been weaned from the bottle- Sleeping question
We did one bottle at a time - started with mid day and then morning and then night. We left the night one for last being he falls asleep similar to your baby. We just replaced the bottle with a sippy cup of milk and kept our normal routine and he had no issue with it....believe me we put it off for a month or two because we were afraid to ruin his routine - he had never been a great sleeper and was sleeping well at that time and we were afraid to jinx it - but luckily - it worked for us...Good Luck to you!
