LIRR from Massapequa to NYC

About how long is the trip from Massapequa to Manhattan?

Can someone explain the whole Jamaica thing to me - do you actually get off one train and board another or does it mean there is a prolonged stop in Jamaica?

Thanks!!!

Re: LIRR from Massapequa to NYC

a peak "express" train from Massapequa to NYC is about 50 mins.

Usually you do not have to change at Jamaica on the Massapequa trains into NYC unless you need to go to Brooklyn. If it stops at Jamaica...its just that...a stop for people to get off and on going to other stops or to Brooklyn.

If you check the schedules, the J at Jamiaca means you need to transfer.

Dh rides from Bellmore to NYC. It's 45 mins express, 1 hour local. I can't imagine it's too much longer from Massapequa. They have the schedule on the LIRR website.

Most trains you don't have to switch at Jamaica, but people from other lines will get on your train there since their trains will go to Brooklyn or something. Once in a while you have to walk over to a train on the next track, but it's pretty rare.

I am on that line and get off in Bellmore. Like Sarahsmommy said it is about 45 minutes express and 1 hour local. Mass is about 3-4 stops further on a local train.

In the morning and evening peak times, most trains are express very rarely stop at Jamaica. In the morning, the only time really you have to change in Jamaica would be if you get on a train going to Bklyn rather than Penn. I just avoid those trains and take the express trains. Unless it is local or the non Penn station, you really never stop at Jamaica - even to pick up people.

Most of my evening trains during peak times only stop Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh (sometimes Seaford). I know there are express trains that the first stop home is Seaford and go on to Mass and Mass Park.
