Would you allow your 13yr old daughter to dress in a "sexy" costume for Halloween? (story inside)

I have a friend who lives in Jersey City who I haven't seen in over 3 years. We keep in touch via email & myspace. I have to say she is VERY leniant and WAY too open w/what she allows her daughter to do. She wrote to me telling me this story.

On Halloween she allowed her daughter to dress up as a sexy Snow White. (I saw the picture of her daughter and wasn't sure what to think. She looked A LOT older!!) Apparently she was out walking around w/her friends - 3 girls who are all 16. A 30yr old man grabbed her and tried to kiss her. She has taken boxing lessons and was able to hit him and run. However, as you can imagine she was terrified. She called her parents and they ended up following this guy home and calling the police. Well...apparently because he didn't harm her, they could only charge him with harrassment. They took him in and he was released a couple of hours later. My friends have lived in this area for over 13 years and everyone in the neighborhood became aware of what happened. They all waited for this guy and when he came out they decided to take matters into their own hands and beat him up ...pretty badly. She told me the story and while I completely understood how upset they were, I didn't think beating him was the answer, especially because he could now turn around and file charges on them. From what I heard they beat him up pretty bad, knocked out teeth etc. It got so bad that his brother came to them begging them to leave him alone.

Let me just say this I by no means am condoning what they did.

I am wondering why they allowed her to go out dressed the way she was at the age of 13? I'm not excusing what this man did because it was wrong. I just wonder in this day and age, did they really think it was ok to let her go out like that w/out adult supervison?

I hate to say it but "kids today" and much more advanced then when I was 13. At 13 my mom would have killed me if my costume was to risky. She would not let me wear anything that was to adult looking. Parents now let their kids go to school with their butt cheaks hanging out of their pants, bellies exposed etc. I can drive threw Sayville in the summertime and see MANY "little girls" looking like cheap chicks. I think it is very sad, and the "role modles" they have to look up to now arent much better. Everyone is in such a rush to grow up, they dont realize they are potetionally putting themselves in danger, so NO I would not allow my 13 yr old daughter to dress like a "sexy snow white". JMO

I comepleting agree with what you are saying. I don't think a 13 year old should be dressing a sexy manner regardless if it is Halloween or not. I think kids are growing up way to fast these days and it bothers me so much.
