insurance coverage

Does everyone find that most insurance companies do not have good coverage ( if any) when it comes to fertility treatments?

Re: insurance coverage

I spent yesterday afternoon going over all 10 benefits plans my company offers.

Only 2 of the 10 cover IVF at all (the highest options). And for each of them there is only one attempt per lifetime.

I know that's BETTER than a lot of plans, but it's still kind of sucky. Chat Icon

Re: insurance coverage

I never really considered us lucky, but it seems we are - we have Cigna and althouigh they have a lot of paperwork and are very slow, they cover 3 or 4 IVFs

Re: insurance coverage

As always, I will point out it has nothing to do with what insurance company you use. It all depends on what coverage for IF your EMPLOYER choose to have.

I work for EMpire BCBS and we have plans that pffer everything from no coverage to up to 3 IVFS a year. Depends what the employer buys. It goes the same way with all insurance companies, which is why people change jobs to get coverage. I work for Empire and have no IF coverage but am looking at jobs that offer Empire with good IVF coverage.

Those of us who have nothing , WISH we had even a penny covered, Im very jealous of some of the ladies on here, as silly as that sounds, becuase the financial stress just adds sooo much more to it all.

Re: insurance coverage

I am not sure..but can you speak to your HR benefits dept? If enough women requested IUI/IVF coverage perhaps they would purchase the needed coverage. I mean, no business wants to lose a good employee over IVF coverage.

Re: insurance coverage

DH's insurance is an emloyer-managed plan and it actually covers diagnosis, but not treatment. Chat Icon

Can you imagine, for example "Oh OK you have cancer - but we will not pay for any of the treatments". That is outrageous, right? Well that's what we get - "yes youa re infertile, now goodbye and good luck, hope you have tons of $".

Re: insurance coverage

I am shocked by how little fertility treatments are not covered under insurance. How then do people afford to do invitro or AI?

Re: insurance coverage

MY DH's insurance doesn't cover infertility. Insurance through my employer has 10K lifetime limit on fertility treatment such as IUI, IVF. Diagnostics doesn't have a limit. I was surprised to find out that fertility medications are not covered. I went to HR bc how they can cover treatments without medications for them and got my money back.
10K is not much, but better then nothing.
