Cell phone Advice Needed

Ok guys, I need advice on whos a good carrier. And Not just I Love VErizon its great but why...

Basically we swtiched from Nextel to Cingular because we though nextel was getting $$$. We have 2 phones and no home phone. Well Our Nextel bill was $150 a month.

The smallest Cingular bill we have had was $255, and they have been as high as $600 Chat Icon

Our contract is up next week , and we want OUT. We tried switching plans within Cingular like 4 times, it doesnt work..

SO...Whos the cheapest????????????

Re: Cell phone Advice Needed

I actually have 3 phones with verizon. I have one, DH and one for my parents for emergancy use. I have the bill right in front of me and this month it is $ 100.44 and that is the most expensive it has been in months normally it is around $85-90

My plan is broken down like this $60.00 for my phone I get 700 min free night and weekends.
9.99 for dh he uses my 700 min and another 9.99 for my parents who also use part of those min.
We actually went over by 20 min this month but that is only b.c my mother made a bunch of long distance phone calls which was about 100 min. (long distance is included it is just that she hardly ever does this).

I work early mornings and use most of the day time min and dh works during the day and using the work phone during the day and free min at night so this works out best for us.

Service is really good, clear reception and besides the long lines in the actual store customer service is always very good.
I changed to sprint at one point since i was getting a 12% discount through work but I never had service at work so it wasnt worth the couple of $$.
So i went back to verizon.

eta We have unlimited verizon to verizon min so hubby and i talk free.
And I didnt add text messaging in the plan but it is .10 a message i think u can do it unlimited for $5 a month not sure though

Re: Cell phone Advice Needed

My DH and I had Nextel, our bills were sooo high each month b/c we had a low amount of minutes.

We switched to Verizon Family Share plan, and one line is 70 per month and the other is 9.99. We get 1000 mins to share per month and verizon to verizon calls are unlimited and don't come out of the 1000. The bill has not been over 85 bucks and I talk on my phone NON STOP believe me!! :)

Hope this helps!!

PS-Verizon service is MUCH better, NExtel was horrible.

Re: Cell phone Advice Needed

it depends where you live and where you'll be using the phone the most.

Verizon gets full service in my neighborhood, TMobile doesn't work at all.

well we live in Lindenhurst and would use the phones mainly on LI , Western Nassau to Eastern - mid suffolk.

I have Verizon and I absolutely love them mostly because I ALWAYS get a signal. I have a nextel for work and my friend has Sprint and I can't stand them. It always breaks up and drops calls. So annoying! If you ever have a problem, Verizon's customer service is fantastic as well. Me and DH have the family share plan and we talk to each other for free so it definitely cuts down on going over our minutes.

Re: Cell phone Advice Needed

yes - Verizon users call other verizon users for free, all the time.

I ONLY use a cell - no house line at all. Rich has Verizon, my parents & siblings have Verizon, ILs, grandparents, etc.

For all Non-Verizon callers, I have 450 minutes to use during daytime hours, and weekends and nights (9pm- 5:59am) are free. I pay $39.99 a month.

Verizon will probably cost you $69.99 for 2 lines, plus tax.

Re: Cell phone Advice Needed

Okay...here we go - I am just about an expert on this after having three different plans in as many years.
We started off with ATT/Cingular and were paying $80/month with 600 free minutes. This is about three or four years ago, so it wasn't exactly cheap. All of a sudden I was dropping calls and getting dead spots, mostly dead spots, all over LI. Not good, especially since I live and work on LI and that's where I need my phone to work.
T-Mobile was highly, highly recommended to us. So we switched almost three years ago. They made Cingular look good. I couldn't have a complete conversation with anyone on my cell. Our bill was $90/month with 1000 minutes and free mobile to mobile. As soon as the year was up we cancelled.
My sister has had Verizon for about four or five years. So we switched to Verizon. Love it, Love it, Love it!!!!! They are not perfect. A few weeks ago I was having a problem on the South Shore (Islip area) wasn't sure if it was the phone or not so I called and they told me they were having a problem and would have it fixed in hours...they did. Our bill is $100/month for DH and I and it includes 1300 minutes, plus all calls to Verizon customers are free. They are not the cheapest, but IMO they are definitely the best!

That being said, good luck in your quest!

Re: Cell phone Advice Needed

THANKS ALL!

It does look like Verizon will be our Choice.

Our Contract is up with Cingular in January, but Im gonna switch right after Christmas hopefully.

I just NEED to get away from Cingular, the lady last night said, why do you want to leave, we will help you with your bill. I asked how many times I changed my plan and she said 6 times, yes 6 times in less then a year and STILL no bills under $225 a month! Thats ridiculous!! Not to mention for customers with less then 1 year with them, the grace period is TEN DAYS till they shut your phone off. We have had our service shut off 3 times so far, once when they screwed up our address after we moved. They did waive the charge but I mean cmon.

I also have Verizon. Some great things about is service in most areas (although parts of LI can be shotty). Also its free to call all Verizon users, so my whole family, and two of my best friends all have it- so we don't have to pay for those calls.

Re: Cell phone Advice Needed

when you go to the store for your new carrier - bring your bills (all 12 months) with you to let the salesperson see exactly how many minutes combined you use peak, off peak and free. Look for patterns, and if you can call at later hours do so, cause those calls are usually free.

Re: Cell phone Advice Needed

We have had them all...

I preferred Verizon...they had great coverage in the city but DH had oodles of problems in Baldwin. We paid 170 a month for 3 phones with 900 shared minutes, free long distance, nights & weekends.

We had Nextel and I couldn't stand them...I hated the phone, we had crappy connections, etc.

Now we have Cingular...DH gets much better service in Baldwin where he works. It's more important that he have better service. We pay about $100 for 2 lines with 1000 or 1100 minutes.
