Oil Company - Budget Plan
Is it worth it to be on a budget Plan with your oil company?

Re: Oil Company - Budget Plan
so glad you posted this. we are on a budget plan it seems we paid 2400 this past year plus 200 for the contract. That seems way high
Id rather just pay the oil as we need it. I actually just go off the phone with the co asking them for a breakdown
Ughh hate bills

Don't you get a refund check for what you don't use?

Re: Oil Company - Budget Plan
didn't do budget plan...it didn't make sense. We pay as we need it but we have a service contract...

Re: Oil Company - Budget Plan
we are doing the budget plan. When we moved in we did COD, but you need to have the money up front.. For us the budget is better because we know exactly what we have to pay..

Re: Oil Company - Budget Plan
I've handled my father's finances for years now. Every time he was on budget with a few companies he overpaid... especially Petro. IMO, they are holding your money when you could be making interest on it yourself. Trust me they are.
Since I took him off budget much better. I've never done budget. We now just budget for a higher oil bill in winter and a higher LIPA bill (CAC) in summer.

Re: Oil Company - Budget Plan
I would have to say no. I've been on them and I always wound up overpaying. The best way to go IMO is to do spot delivery and if you feel you need it, have a service contract (usually around $150 per year) with an independent agent. The only drawback to this is that you have to keep an eye on your tank to make sure you don't run out of oil. Even with a contract, it is still a good idea to check the oil after a delivery. There is a paste you can use that will tell you if there is any water in the oil. I know that you can lock in a price, but, you will still find it cheaper on the open market if you shop around. The quality of the oil is the same because all companies get their oil from the same filling stations. I've been doing this for years and don't have any complaints. Good luck!

Re: Oil Company - Budget Plan
I have to tell you, I have been on budget for almost 10 years and LOVE it. We pay NOTHING for our contract, never have and our bills TOTAL $1,680/yr. We pay all year long too, not just in the winter so it is easier to budget for the bills.

Re: Oil Company - Budget Plan
I'm happy being on the budget plan. We've been on one for 3 years and things are going well.
Always shop around to try to get a better price on oil! Everything is negotiable!

Re: Oil Company - Budget Plan
We shopped around this year and got a new oil company and went to the old to see if they would work with us and they were not negotiable at all as a matter of fact they were down right rude and nasty, needless to say I would never go back to them
