How do we feel about doing a Christening on Mother's Day?
All our family will be coming in from OOT and we thought it'd be nice to do it on Mother's day (it would mean alot since I'm a new mom and to have all the family together for both occasions).
Not sure if we're doing a party party or if just the family will go to dinner afterwards.

We are christening our baby on Fathers Day She will be about 6 weeks old by then.
Dh is okay with it, his only request was to have the baby wear an "I love my Daddy" bib
My family is all on LI, I am in CT, so everyone will need to travel too.

well, I think that stuff like that isn't as big a deal as it is in NY.....it would be done as part of the normal church service and then there might be cake and punch afterwards for everyone in the congregation.
We just thought it'd be a nice idea.

What could be more perfect than doing it on Mother's Day??
Of course, if you have sisters-in-law with whom you're only begrudingly friendly, I'm sure they wouldn't be that thrilled as it takes away from their day and seeing the mothers that they have to see.

Re: How do we feel about doing a Christening on Mother's Day?
I think it is a great idea.
I think that the only why I would think that it wasn't is if it was my first mothers day with my new baby and I was going to a christening - but then again, I would probably get over it.

Re: How do we feel about doing a Christening on Mother's Day?
We went to a Christening last mother's day, it was DH's cousin so it was fine because his family was going to be their but I felt bad for my mom. The church was in the city and then the reception was in NJ and we live on LI along with my parents so we couldnt spend that much time with them. I personally wouldn't have a christening on mother's day or father's day because I wouldn't want anyone to feel like I took time away from their family. But if you family is already going to come down from NY to visit you guys that weekend then it may work for you. By the way your little girl is adorable!

Its fine if your just inviting family to the party, but If your going to invite your friends some of them might not show up, they probably will want to spend that day with there own family. JMO

Re: How do we feel about doing a Christening on Mother's Day?
It's a tough call. My son was born on Mother's Day, and let me tell you how special it was for me. Although his birthday won't always fall on Mother's Day, when his 1st birthdayt rolled around, it was on a Monday, so we decided to have it the day before, a Sunday, which was Mother's Day. My MIL gave me hell for taking away her mother's day from her, so if anyone in your family is like that, then I wouldn't Me, I would do it !

I wouldn't mind if it were family, but otherwise I probably wouldn't attend.

Re: How do we feel about doing a Christening on Mother's Day?
We did Jack's July 3rd Weekend so everyone had a long weekend to travel. I see no problem with Mother's Day especially since I always spend the morning of it in a Church anyway...some of your families might just spend it in your parish rather then their own don't see a huge deal and honestly down in the South it's more of an immediate family and friends in your faith thing rather then all the hoopla they get up in Ny. I think people will be fine with it and if their not then you didn't need them their anyway.
I thought you were jewish though?

Don't you do Granparents Day 9-11... use that next time to chill her out. Mine loves having her own day that she can't share with me...lol

Re: How do we feel about doing a Christening on Mother's Day?
I would show to the church if it was a very close friend or close relative, otherwise I'd probably have to opt out.
We had enough issues trying to balance out my mother vs his mother and how much time they get. While I agree it's a sweet idea for you, it's not convenient for your guests.
