I agree that those poor animals need help, but where that woman is trying to help them just isn't the right place.

Re: X-Post - Help save "Angel's Gate"
I know I am going to get a lot of backlash for this but...she has been there for 13 YEARS!!!!! Now all of sudden some "new" neighbors are complaining and she is having problems. Oh yeah, and by the way, because of the neighbors complaints the town has visited repeatedly and found NO VIOLATIONS!!! -
Sorry, but there are people who have animals in their yards barking incessantly or have dog's roaming the streets, etc. etc.. I don't think this woman should be ousted when she isn't breaking any rules.

no backlash at all - I just feel that she has a HUGE heart for the animals, but she should have a little more consideration for her neighborhood. I live close by, and I've heard/seen/smelled awful things that are just unnecessary in a residential area. One of her "volunteers" broke into my best friends house - she caught him in digging around in her jewelry box when she screamed and he ran off.

Just because someone has been breaking the rules for years, doesn't make it right. As for the people with incesssantly barking dogs - they're also violating the town ordinance.
eta. I'm not saying she should stop helping them. I'm saying do it in a commercially zoned area.

The only thing is, she hasn't been breaking any rules. Apparently someone has decided to "get rid of her" and started calling the town about her. Although the town has visited, they haven't been able to issue any violations. They are going to "make" a rule about animal hospice in regards to her and try to remove her from the area.

I am sorry that something like that happened - I know her "volunteers" are either retarded and/or handicapped, but that is still a scary thing.

Re: X-Post - Help save "Angel's Gate"
If you look at all the signatures on the petition, how many of them are in the area of the home?
I went through the 2500 most recent signatures, and I have more fingers than there were signatures of locals. Everyone that I know around here thinks she's really doing a great thing, but she is very much in the wrong place.

Well, I think a lot of the signatures that are recent are because it's posted on a website.

I agree. If she is not violating any rules, then I don't see why there is a problem.
I'm so tired of the "That's a great idea, but not in my neighborhood" mentality. I live in a neighborhood that has an affordable housing development. Everyone was up in arms about it and the complexes are beautiful, well maintained and bring a positive element to the area.

I have to agree with Shorty and Barbara on this. I love animals and try to do as much as I can for them but a residential neighborhood is the wrong place to help that many animals. I live relatively nearby as well, on the Kings Park/East Northport border. I have seen the place and know people that live in the immediate vicinity. I don't want her to be shut down completely and I fear for the animals but it needs to be in a commerically zoned area.
ETA: I live within two blocks of the town's animal shelter. I do not complain about that, despite the fact that it can get loud when the let the dogs out in the pens, but it is in a commercial zone. I also do not believe in any home "business" that attracts many volunteers, customers, etc. in a clearly residential neighborhood.

Re: X-Post - Help save "Angel's Gate"
I hope I'm not wording this poorly...Its not that I don't want it in MY neighborhood - I don't think it should be in ANY neighborhood! The woman has admitted that those animals carry disease - the home is surrounded by families and AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL! I agree with Barb - It should be in a commercially zoned area.

Re: X-Post - Help save "Angel's Gate"
Josephine Lane is through some woods at one of my deadends. We have no complaints but we are animal lovers and DH has lived here for his entire life.
And I'd rather see people in the neighborhood complain about the ******* teenagers speeding around on illegal ATV's and drit bikes up & down the roads!

Whats the difference Disease is Disease no matter where it is right??? And as far as that volunteer she is in no way accountable nor should she be held accountable for that it could have easily been a local families kid doing that. I applaud her efforts but unfortunately that will go unrecognized.
