Re: Asking someone to take their shoes off in your house?
I tried in the begining, but since we have hardwood floors and I'm always slipping and sliding, I worried that it was a safety hazard.
But, when we have a carpeted house, I will definitely ask. I've been asked countless times when I've visited friends...

I only ask when it rains outside because we put down new carpets.

RUDE! I tell people when they come in to be really careful cause there is Ceramic tile. I let them know if they want they can take their shoes. I could care less about the dirt but I dont want anyone falling.

I never ask! If they want to, thats totally fine. I want my guest to be comfy. I have hardwood floor and tile as well and I dont want anyone falling. Everyone is pretty careful.

Re: Asking someone to take their shoes off in your house?
i think its OK, as long as no one steals your Manolos
most of our friends just take them off when they walk in out of comfort anyway, so we've never really asked (though we have Very light carpets, we also have carpet cleaner ). But most of them will ask if we want them to when they come in- generally, we dont care.

I don't ask people. Not because I think it's rude, but because I feel weird asking.

Re: Asking someone to take their shoes off in your house?
I'm totally a neat freak, I take off my shoes in the house and my family and close friends do too... however I don't ask people to do it and I don't expect them too....... I just clean when they leave
ETA - I always take them off in other peoples houses though...

Re: Asking someone to take their shoes off in your house?
I am so uncomfortable not wearing shoes in other people's homes that I would never put someone in that position in my home. If it's raining or snowing that's one thing, if they want to take off their shoes...they are welcome to, but I would never ask.

Re: Asking someone to take their shoes off in your house?
I never mind when other people ask us.. I never ask people to do it at our house but a few still do anyway.
The only time I ever asked people to take off their shoes was when the baby was crawling and it was SO HARD keeping the floor spotless as it was

Re: Asking someone to take their shoes off in your house?
Not that it is rude, but if it is raining out..out of common courtesy I will take my shoes off.
I dont think I would ever ask someone to take them off.

Re: Asking someone to take their shoes off in your house?
I have been asking people the past few days witht his rain because we have very light beige carpets. Otherwise I never do.
One of my kids I work with, I have to take my shoes off when I get to their house. Their kids drop food all the time and pick it up and eat it, so they try to keep it as clean as possible, which I understand, so I don't mind, but it is a pain when I don't have flip flops on!!

Re: Asking someone to take their shoes off in your house?
I don't think its rude to ask, but I personally don't care if people where their shoes in my house. Shoes are better than some people's feet in my opinion.
