Need friend related advice.

Need friend related advice.

I have a friend I haven't spoken to in about 4 years. At the time I was fed up with her and her behavior, and I chose to walk away from the friendship. I've had a lot of regret ever since, and thought about contacting her. I saw her about a year ago (we both work in the same school district) and she was cordial to me.

I have always felt guilty about how I left things. Even though she was a difficult person, she was still a good person and a good friend and in hindsight I know that I was not always a good friend to her.

I don't have her phone # or address and since she's a teacher she's probably unlisted. I was thinking about emailing her because I have her email addy. Would that be tacky? I don't know how else to get in touch with her and I would not want to put her on the spot by just showing up at her school. If she tells me to go scratch I can accept that; I just want to apologize more than anything and see if anything can be salvaged of our friendship.

TIA.

I think emailing her is a great idea. She too might regret how things were back when you were friends. Chat Icon

Re: Need friend related advice.

I think you can definately email her. Maybe say something like "I have been thinking about you lately and thought maybe we could go for a drink." IMO, that is a semi-apology.

When trying to salvage a friendship, I think what matters is that you are trying to contact her regardless if it's by email, phone etc.
If she's on the same page like you are, she will probably be happy you contact her.
Good Luck !! Chat Icon

Re: Need friend related advice.

A heart felt appology is always a good idea no matter how the message gets to her. I think an email would be a great idea.

I hope it works out for you Chat Icon

Re: Need friend related advice.

I think email is a great idea too. That way, if she wants to accept the apology and mend the friendship, she can, but if she doesn't, she can ignore it or just thank you for apologizing and leave it at that. I would find that less awkward and intrusive and it lets her decide what she wants to do.

Good luck Chat Icon

Re: Need friend related advice.

a good email that is sincere will definitely help things if she wants to reconnect.

i want to add this- because i also have a friend that i "dumped" and the second she got back into my life she was just as annoying as she was in the past- -

just remember why you ended the friendship in the first place- people usually dont change- so just be careful not to get yourself into the same situation with her - or be prepared to keep her more distanced

I have thought about this a lot, and have really questioned whether or not letting this go was a good decision, and came to the conclusion that I was not always as patient as I could have been, and that at heart she's a good person. So I think I am making the right decision. Even if nothing comes of it, I am glad I apologized (just sent off the email a few minutes ago!)

Thanks again ladies.

Not tacky at all!

I'd email to say that you feel bad about losing touch and want to get together or something like that.
