Glucose Test - What happens if you fail?
I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia at 15 years old back when I was about 25 lbs underweight. I am at the proper weight for my height now pretty much so I think it may have gone away. I have never tested the theory though. We are going to start TTCing soon and I just am so worried about this glucose thing. I dont have to take anything, it is just controlled by my diet. At what month of pregnancy does the doctor do this test? And if you fail, what do they do?

If you fail you will be diagnosed with gestational diabetes. You will probably be put on a diet first and if that can't control your blood sugar than you would get insulin injections. However, I don't know if you would be more susceptoible because of that condition, definitely talk to the Dr. The reason for GD is that the placenta's hormones interfere with your body's ability to process glucose

Re: Glucose Test - What happens if you fail?
Sorry to bring this back up but I was wondering what the chances are of failing the test because your levels drop too low instead of go too high?
I am really worried because I have basically stayed away from simple sugars since I was a teenager. When I would have hypoglycemic "episodes" it was not a pretty sight and I cant imagine its healthy for the baby either.

Re: Glucose Test - What happens if you fail?
You should talk to your Dr. and see what they suggest during pregnancy. If you have been able to manage it through a diet thus far you may be able to do the same while PG.
I'm worried about when I will have to take the glucose test too since my mom is Type 2.
But good luck and talk to your Dr.

Re: Glucose Test - What happens if you fail?
Usually there is no failing the test if its too low. If it is, diet alone will or should be able to fix it.
Blood suger doesnt typically drop when PG like it does on normal occasions for a hypoglycemic.
Im hypogycemic myself and I passed mine fine
