Tip: getting kids to remember address & phone number
I've posted about this on Jamie's thread, but in case you didn't read it...
I usually read my kids a book before bedtime & one story without a book that we make up.
The stories usually have a theme, maybe something that happened during the day. "Joseph was angry and what do you think he should do next...?" They participate by chiming in.
The latest thing I've been doing is telling them a story where they get lost & have to tell some magical animal or another Mommy their address, my full name, their full name & phone number (area code included) for practice. I have told my kids repeatedly that if they get lost they should find a Mommy with kids because all Mommies help children find their own Mommy.
Also the code to get into my kids' daycare is the last 4 digits of our phone number. Each day they practice by punching in the numbers. I usually start out by saying "Our phone number is 631-261..uh-oh I forgot the code!" They finish it.
I realize most of your kids are too young for this, but something to think about in the future.

Also when I was teaching Pre-K I would teach the kids their number to the song "There are 7 days in the week."
They'd go home and sing the days of the week song as well as their phone numbers.

That's great! You will really be surprised at how many of mythird and fourth graders don't know their address. It is so important especially in a fire or if they are lost. If the children live in the apartment we also teach them specific floor and location of apartment.

The way I taught Patrick was we bounced a ball & I would start & say 516 then bounce the ball to him. he give the next 3 digits then bounce the ball back to me. Then we did it with our address & my name & hubby's name. We did it everynight for a week or so. He knows them all by heart now.

This is a great tip and I believe it's never to early to start. DD is only 2 and she knows her address. We practice it all the time.
I like the tip about finding a "mommy w/ kids" if you get lost. I will start teaching her that one tomorrow.
