Re: Spinoff-Circumcision-Personal question W/ Poll
I will leave the decision up to DH. I personally would not but if he really feels strongly then I will go ahead and have it done. Of course this is assuming we have a son next.

Same here. I feel like it's an unnecessary surgery, but if DH really wanted it I would.

I did just as you girls said, I let my DH make the decision and he has decided that he wanted to have our son cirumcized.

Re: Spinoff-Circumcision-Personal question W/ Poll
i let my hubby make the decision and he based it on the fact that while in the locker room when he played hockey, the uncircumcized kids got made fun of for "looking different".

Re: Spinoff-Circumcision-Personal question W/ Poll
We did it for Ryan. Didn't really think twice about it. Kind of like emliain posted, I feel it "looks" better and didn't want him to have to be made fun of. Maybe that is bad, but its how I felt. Just my opinion though. Its definitely a personal choice.
And just so you PG gals know, after the OB does it, the baby is only in pain the first time they pee. After that he was fine and it healed really quick.

DH decided not to circumcise Nate. He felt it unnecessary surgery.

We did it for the lockerroom thing too, but honestly were a bit freaked out by doing it. Here you have this little baby - perfectly formed and than alter it. Reminded me of people that cut of their dogs' tail.

if we have a son he won't be circumcised. DH isn't and he never had an issue at all.

Re: Spinoff-Circumcision-Personal question W/ Poll
Alex is not circumcised. He was born in Ireland and they don't perform routine circumcisions there. However, we decided before hand that he wouldn't have been even if he were born here. DH isn't and I don't think its a big deal.

Re: Spinoff-Circumcision-Personal question W/ Poll
No. I don't believe in female circumsion and actually write letters to foreign gov'ts trying to help women who are forced into it so I feel it would be very wrong for me to chose to do it to a son. While my husband is, as are most men his age, he did tell me that he could not say for sure if any of his friends were or weren't..men don't look in locker rooms at each other. So that made me know that a son would not be made fun of. I always felt surgery on our child should be a joint decision, not just one of us making the decision JMO. My son is being born in Africa and will most likely not have one anyway since it is not routine anyway.

i hear you, and respect your opinion, but female circumcision is compleltely different, it is done barbarically in Africa and it is done for completely different reasons than a male circumcision. I really don't think the 2 can even be compared. Some girls are born with larger labia than others and they have surgery for hygenic, cosmetic and comfort reasons, I think that is the typr of surgery thatcan be compared to male circumcision. And hate to say this, but giys DO look at each other in the locker room, my hubby played hockey with the manliest of the men and guess what, they knew who was curcumcised and who wasn't, I think it;s just curiosity. To this day my hubby and his buddies laugh when they remmeber the kid on the team that they referred to as having a "helmet". I repect your strong stance on this issue and I too would be interested in letter writing to stop female circumcision in Africa.

Re: Spinoff-Circumcision-Personal question W/ Poll
I will send you info on the campaigns to stop the practice in Africa. But for me, again JMO, I do compare the two in prinicipal although the actual practice (using a sterile OR, medication, and the emotional toll) is very different.

We decided not to circumsize our son. DH is not and he has never had any issues with it and has never been made fun of.

Re: Spinoff-Circumcision-Personal question W/ Poll
My son is circd and we will with our second son as well. We have no problem with it. But I dont think the "being made fun of in the locker room" thing applies to this generation of boys. So many parents are opting to not circ nowadays vs when most of the DHs here were born. If thats the big reason for anyone feeling they should do it, I think the changing times are something to consider.
