Good sneaker for running or advice on choosing one?

So very un-athletic me wants to start walking/running. I want to get new sneakers- can anyone recommend a really good running shoe- especially for someone that has foot problems?

New Balance Cross Trainers are fantastic. I have two pair that I use for the gym. I wouldn't use any other brand of sneakers.

Re: Good sneaker for running?

I suspect you are going to get lots of different answers on this. The two posters above me mentioned two brands of sneakers I can't wear at all - I find New Balance to not have enough arch support for me, and Nikes run too narrow for my feet. I have the best luck with Ascis and Adidias. but, I think like a lot of things - different people like different brands.

i have Nike air maxx, and i love them, BUT if you run alot, i've had the bubble actually pop. i heard the shocks are awesome for that though.

I swore by New Balance for YEARS but my sister got me a pair of Nikes last year when I was exercising a lot and also going to Physical Therapy after being in an accident, and they were REALLY comfy and held up well.

I would go to the Runners Shop and have them pick out a good shoe for you- then I would buy it at Modells (ETA: Its a lot cheaper there)

i was gonna say the same thing. go to a specialty running shop and ask them to help you. they'll look at your foot shape and running gait and stuff and find something that works for you.

I love the Sacony's. But really I just get any ugly thing off clearance. I only use them for 2 months. Then get a new pair. I go through them quick.

I ended up just going to Kohl's and got these all terrain- for "beginning runners" (that's me) for 37.99 on sale- I thought they were very comfy too.

Really does depend on your foot. New balance always was best for me, then asics. Some avia and reebok too. But not nike or addidas.

Try them on, jump in them, etc. Should be supportive, cushy, etc. Note: There are different holes on the shoes to account for different width feet, you don't have to use them all, this might help for a better wear.

Re: Good sneaker for running or advice on choosing one?

I spent way too much of my high school/college life selling sneakers!!! New Balance and Saucony are both excellent brands. New Balance is particularly good if you have wide feet as they're one of the only shoes to come in widths.

It's actually really important to determine what yuo're going to use them for. If you're mostly running, you should buy a running shoe because it's designed to support your arch while remaining flexible to give you a maximum range of motion. A cross trainer is best if you're going to be doing a little of everything because it offers the most comprehensive support system.

Always make sure your shoes fit properly and always untie them every time you take them off and re-tie them properly when you put them back on - not too tight, but not loose eithe.r
