Time off/short term disability - what are you going to use?
I was just wondering if any of you have thought about taking time off for either the retrieval or transfer.
I don't mind working until the transfer but I think I def. want to take some time off after the transfer, this way I'll feel I've done as much as possible for this little embies to stick and grow, but I"m not sure how long I need.
What is everyone else planning on doing?
I started a new job in April so I'm a little wary of letting them know my true reasons for the time off

Im a teacher so I cant do it. I was thinking about taking a leave of absence. I have no clue as to what to expect with IVF. I see that it is a lot of dedication which Im ready to give. I guess I will be taking a lot of half days or sick days. Now that I got tenure.

Re: Time off/short term disability - what are you going to use?
I tried to get short term disability, but was denied.
I wound up taking either vacation time or sick/personal days towards the end of the time I was cycling (had to travel to the city), and went back to work 3 or 4 days after transfer.

Every RE will tell you something different. Mine have always said just restricted activity, but I stayed home anyway!

Re: Time off/short term disability - what are you going to use?
I used personal time/sick time for the rettrieval and transfer. The doctor said I could return to work right after the transfer. Luckily, it was a Friday, so I had the weekend off. I'm trying to save as much time as possible, in case I need it after becoming pregnant.

I've spoken to some women that have had twins from IVF and they said that on they rested the day of retrieval after the procedure, went back to work, then stayed home for at least 48 hours after the transfer on complete bedrest Since DH & I pay ourselves I hope to be able to do everything I possibly can to make it work

I've tried it all, regular activity, restricted activity, and last cycle I put myself on total bedrest (since I was laid off my job) and still nothing

Re: Time off/short term disability - what are you going to use?
I am not even up to IVF and being a nyc teacher, i am applying for a medical leave. With all the bloodwork every cycle / monitoring, my job does not accept my absences or latenesses. I am praying I get the leave, since it comes with full benefits. The very benefits that pay for all my Re visits/treatments !

I went through IVF in June and unfortunately, miscarried at 5 weeks, (very late implantation). I went back to work the day after the retievial, (which was difficult and I don't reccomend) because my boss was giving me a hard time about taking time off. My transfer was on Friday and I went back to work on Monday. With my first cycle, I went back to work the day after transfer - I felt fine, no different than having an IUI.
