Why do people at work always ASSUME
I got questioned and lectured today on my behavior at the convention. The girl I roomed with she got questioned and lectured at the same time by the COO and the guy we work with who was with us the whole time got questioned and lectured.
Apparently you're not allowed if you are female to go to your male co-workers room by yourself at 11pm wearing sweats and when leaving his room with a box of paperwork say "you're the best. Thank you so much" And when he says sleep tight we've got a big day tomorrow and you say laughing "I will now"
Because by doing this someone thinks you and him had sexual relations.
And if you're a 19 year old girl you're not allowed to accept having breakfast that was sent to your room by a customer as a thank you is against company policies because it by doing so someone thinks you have given him "special services"
The 3 of us got questioned like you wouldnt believe on what we did when we were in our rooms. And the guy who is 44 is not allowed to have alcohol in his room especially if he had a female co-worker in his room.
oh yes and paint yourself your own conclusion......My response when asked how do you aquire beads at Mardi Gras. "we all partaked in the mardi gras activities" Apparently means you stripped and flahshed to get beads. Which isnt the case. We had a few drinks, beads were thrown from the balconies, and people often gave you beads.
It was a day from Hell!!!!
The good thing is the manager went to bat for me and the others to the COO as the COO was not at the convention and is going on hear say where the manager was at the convention.

Oh my...seems like Big Brother was with you.
I went to Mardi Gras, got TONS of beads, and never showed any skin at all. My two friends didn't either. In fact, of all the parades I attended, I only saw women showing their boobs on Bourbon St., and it wasn't for beads.

Re: Why do people at work always ASSUME
It was 30 degrees believe me no skin was being shown. The manager knew the deal and knew that we had gotten beads but he also had a rep from HR in the room and it was a question that had to be asked in front of her. I even told them in my questioning, it was 30 degrees do you honestly believe I'd be flashing. I am the same person who is wears a turtle neck and blanket in the office when it's 80 degrees. The manager laughed.
The guy we were with he got asked at any time did he see me flash anyone. He said i didnt see her do anything and he was with me the entire time. he said I know she had a lot of beads but I never saw her do anything. They then asked him so at any time during the night you didnt leave melissa for one minute. He said no we traveled together we stayed together. I watched her and the other girl. If they got a ton of beads its because they were thrown at them.
It is so ridiculous. The main reason all of this is coming down is because the 2 guys in question are salaried employees and they represent the company at all times where the girl and I are hourly and technically we are off the clock so what we do in our down time is our business but it all falls back to "it is a company event" and no matter where you go or what you do you have to uphold the intergrity of the company.

When you were at the parade you were at a company event? Were you with clients? Were you representing your company in any way?
If not, what they are doing is illegal.

Nope was not a company event while we were at the parade. Convention was over, all of our orders were processed, it was our down time. We were definatly not with any clients and were not representing the company in any way. The company name was never mentioned. It was like 4 friends hanging out then 4 co-workers going out.
How can I prove this to be illegal?? How is this illegal?? Does a company know something like this is illegal???

It's not their business what you do on your down time. I'll ask around tomorrow at work to see what out policy is (I work for a large company). But I know for a fact there are plenty of people sleeping with other people and there is plenty of flirting and debachery at any outing.

My guess is how you conduct yourself on a company trip is company business.
That being said, sounds like you should be using the words intimidation and harrassment yourself as you talk to the COO.

Re: Why do people at work always ASSUME
Thank you so much for your feedback.
Elbee that would be wonderful. I'd love to have that type of information just in case $h!t were to ever hit the fan.
My manager assured me all is fine and this will be a "life's lesson" but the fact remains what I do in my down time is my business.
But the whole company business thing and how you represent yourself is what is being used on their end
