Low Sodium Diets?
I have been requested by my dr. to go on a low-fat/low-cholesterol/low-sodium diet. I have done WW so I am familiar with low-fat but I am having a real hard time with the low-sodium. I feel like I can't eat anything. I also have to have no caffeine (no chocolate!!), no alcohol. Ugghhh!!!!!!!!

Re: Low Sodium Diets?
my mom cooks only low salt/sodium because of my dad.He had a heart transplant 15 years ago and he needs to watch what he eats.
I too have been cooking like that for years.
we use Mrs Dash in our foods, buy low sodium canned broth and tomatos. No canned soups. No cold cuts, except for fresh roast turkey and low salt swiss. Youd be surprised how spices can really enhance the flavor of your foods and you wont even miss the salt!!

Thanks so much. I put lemon juice on the chicken the other night and it wasn't too bad. I will have to look into these other things too.

Re: Low Sodium Diets?
Actually i was just coming on here to look for this, i need to go on a low sodium diet too, and i was sent to the nutrionalist and she told me i was eating fine and just to exercise. I was trying to find soemthing on here becasue if i don't get my high blood pressure down he wants to put me on medication and i would rather not go on it. Since teh nurtionalist was no help to me i wanted to see if anybody on here was on a low sodium diet

Welcome! I have started using the Mrs. Dash and it is good. I have put it so far on my salad at lunch. Good luck and if you have any questions, just ask. I have only been doing this for a few weeks though!

Re: Low Sodium Diets?
Just remember...anything "ready to eat" most likely will be high in sodium. Packaged meals, like WW frozen entree's or Lean Cuisine will be too high in sodium. Most canned soups, unless marked low sodium will be very high.
Limit your cheeses, bottled sauces (ketchup, BBQ, A-1) and cold cuts.
good luck. Its hard to cut out the salt...because its in EVERYTHING!!!

Re: Low Sodium Diets?
Thanks for the advice. I couldn't believe the amouint of sodium in soup, ketchup, or even salad dressings. I did find a lite rasberry one that only had 35 mg of salt. I have been checking everything when i go shopping. I will have to try the mrs. dash thanks for the suggestion.

Which dressing is that? I have been looking and everything was too high. I have been using oil and vinegar.
