Renovating a bathroom and kitchen....
Dh and I saw a coop today. The size was perfect for us, but the kitchen and bathroom need a total makeover. Has anyone renovated their bathroom and kitchen?? About how much did it cost??
Thank you.

Re: Renovating a bathroom and kitchen....
I don't know about a kitchen- but DH and I are about to start redoing our bathroom. The contractor we're using quoted us about $5500, with about $4k of that for materials. However, we've bought a lot of the big stuff-tub, vanity, vanity top, toilet, tile, shower head thingy and a few other odds and ends, and spent about $1500. I know we still have more to get (window, door, sheetrock, fixtures) so we may come close to $4k. BUT we didn't buy the least expensive stuff either (or the most) so we could have saved on the tub and vanity. I think those choices can save you $$- and I'd also get multiple quotes. Good luck!
We could also have saved by doing the work ourselves, but DH and I have NOT been a smashing success at those DIY projects.

Re: Renovating a bathroom and kitchen....
Depends on the material you select, size of the rooms, the work to be done and the contractor you select. Someone else’s cost won't be a good comparison. You'll have to go out and look at countertops, cabinets, vanities, tile etc and find a contractor that you like.

Re: Renovating a bathroom and kitchen....
We are in the middle of renovating our kitchen and the cabinet quotes alone are between $14 to 16k not including the counter top.
Everything completed we are estimated to pay around $22k (including new appliances). Then again it all depends on the size of the kitchen.

Re: Renovating a bathroom and kitchen....
We just finished our kitchen reno in our condo. We have a small galley kitchen. We did glazed American Woodmark cabinets, new ss appliance, granite counters, backsplash, and tile floor. It is hard to say exactly what we paid because the labor included other work that was done in other rooms, but I would estimate we spent $17K.

Re: Renovating a bathroom and kitchen....
We just did. For the bathroom, I did all marble (floors, walls), new fixtures, and a big airjet tub. We had all new plumbing. It was 25,000. The kitchen was also 25,000. I was able to save money because instead of replacing the cabinets, I had them resurfaced. I put in a granite countertop, and got all new stainless steel appliances. We did the bathroom first and then the kitchen. Both rooms are a decent size. The kitchen was easier to do (workman were faster and there was less mess).

Re: Renovating a bathroom and kitchen....
It really does depend upon:
1. Are you doing a complete gut down to the studs?
2. Does plumbing need to be removed or replaced? Plumbing is big bucks $$$$.
3. How big your kitchen is.
4. If you are chaging the layout at all.
5. What materials you are using. Yes, all wood cabinets are expensive. Most on the market today are particle board with veneers on top. Granitre is more expensive.
6. Appliances- they really can range in price depending upon what you want. I would think for a co-op you would go fairly basic. Appliances would probably be around 3K (if include basic washer and dryer).
7. Labor is also very expensive in this part of the country.
We did a complete gut of our kitchen. We also vaulted the ceiling, put in a sliding glass door, reconfigured closets for a pantry, all new electrical wiring (was aluminum), bought a slightly higher end convenction micro and oven, and washer and dryer, installed all wood cabinets and granite.
My kitchen is large and with all of that work my FIL said the retail price of my kitchen would be about 45K-50K with labor.
As for the bathroom, again totally depends. My FIL just designed my Dad's bathroom, very basic and with labor (my brother's friend) it is less than 6K and that is a fully tiled bathroom (every wall up to the ceiling) with a high rise toilet and converting the tub into a Roman shower with seat and grab bars. That was a complete gut as well.
On the other hand, my Master bath, the shower doors alone (custom) were over $2K, the Jacuzzi tub we got at a discount for a little over $1K, the tile alone was over $1K and then the installation, not to mention the cabinets, toilet, marble top, electrical and plumbing. WE never itemized room by room but my bath would retail cost probably upwards of 20K.

Re: Renovating a bathroom and kitchen....
I renovated the bathroom and kitchen in my co-op. I did both very cheaply. I had the bathroom gutted and bought everything at Home Depot for about $2,500. I was lucky to have a friend of a friend do the labor for 5 days for another $2,500.
The kitchen was a small galley kitchen and I just had a new countertop installed, refaced the cabinets and put down new tile. I didn't buy new appliances so that could have been a bit more costly, but the kitchen cost about $3,000.
I had the work done a little less than 3 years ago, so factoring in for price increases, I think you could do both for less than $20,000.

Re: Renovating a bathroom and kitchen....
I redid the bathroom and kitchen in my co-op and it cost almost 10,000 for both. This place was disgusting! I did home depot for both...I wasn't going to spend $$$$, especially for a co-op.
Here's a pic of both the kitchen and bath. The bathroom has everything new and the kitchen has original fridge and dishwasher. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Renovating a bathroom and kitchen....
I did my Bath for about $10k - $12k. Complete renovation. Heated floors, tile, tub, fixtures, cathedral ceiling etc. However, everything is on the "high end". If we choose middle of the road it would have been $8k - $10k. We also had friends do a lot of the work for free.
I'm budgeting about $35k for the kitchen
