Am I the only Mommy who doesn't feel the need for professional photos?
I've had them done twice so far. The first time someone came to the house the week after we came home from the hospital and the second time I took her to Target. Both times I felt like the pictures weren't that good, and the one who came to the house was super expensive. MIL refuses to put up the one from Target it's so bad.
I feel like I get much better pictures of her myself than we have from "professionals" so far. I am debating now if I should take her to a studio to do holiday pictures for the cards or if I should just try to stage it myself. I feel like I've wasted so much money already.
Am I alone in feeling this way?

I wouldn't even bother, but I have a friend that works at Kiddy Kandids, so I take him there for free pictures.

We haven't had any professional photos of Jesse. The only time we may take his is with his cousins (as a photo for grandma of all the kids). I don't think the professional photos are worth it.

I felt the same way last year. I set up my digital camera with the remote (so I could be right next to Andrew while I snapped pictures) and I got some of the best and cutest pictures of him that way! I loved the holiday pictures I had made myself last year!

I feel the same way. Although, I think I will have the holiday pictures done. So far, I only took Alex once to BRUS and I really didn't care for the pics all that much. It can be very expensive and like the other girls say I feel like I get great pics of him at home.

I was able to get some great pictures from my digital that I thought were just as good as professional pcitures so we have yet to have them done. I'm thinking since his 1st birtday is in two weeks we will get them done then.
Here is my all time favorite self timer picture.

Thanks! I'm going to try to take the pictures myself. I kept thinking, am I going to regret this 10 years down the line?
you guys that have friends that do this are lucky. I agree, I'm sure that the baby's comfort with the photographer helps make them turn out better.
ddunne2 that's an awesome picture!

Re: Am I the only Mommy who doesn't feel the need for professional photos?
My SIL doesn't get professional photos done -- she takes them herself and just orders many prints of the good ones.
You do have a lot of time still before the holidays. Maybe you can buy a little holiday outfit now, I've seen them in stores already, and start experimenting. I know there are a LOT of talented ladies on here who might even help you add text or brush the photos up a bit if need be. See what you come out with and then, if you aren't pleased, go with professional photos. But most likely you'll have something you're very happy with before then and it won't be necessary.

Re: Am I the only Mommy who doesn't feel the need for professional photos?
I only got them done once for his christening. I had some one come to my home to take some nice ones to use as thank yous a coupel weeks after the christening. While I loved the professional pictures - I just don't feel the need to go to stores yet. I take over a 100 pictures a month and DH and I like to take some cute creative pictures anyway.
I was thinking of doing the stores ones - maybe once a year for the birthday. I felt bad like you as if I was the only mother not doing it.

Re: Am I the only Mommy who doesn't feel the need for professional photos?
I consider myself a good amateur & have started to practice on strangers (yes, ok Denise you were my first stranger) so I dont think I need the professional ones that often.
For Christmas I dress the kids up & take my own pictures, but a lot of times the backdrops are just much cuter than what I could do. Image Attachment(s):
