Cabinet Refacing Consultation

Next Saturday I am having one of those Home Depot in house consulatations for cabinet surfacing. I was curious whether anyone has had one. I heard that it only takes 2-5 days to finish the kitchen which is why I like it. I hear it is also cheaper than buying new cabinets. Does anyone know how much cheaper? Can you add extra cabinets?

The only thing that concerns me is that I would be replacing the appliances, changing the floor, and adding a granite countertop. If I make all of those changes, I wonder if it is stupid then to reface the cabinets instead of buying new ones.

I had Sears and Home Depot give us cabinet refacing prices for our upstairs apartment and they went expensive. Sears was crazy they wanted $8,000 for the cabinets and a formica countertop. Chat Icon Home Depot wanted $5,000 w/o the countertop. We got new cabinets and a countertop from Lowes for $4,000.

If you are doing all that other work anyway, I wouldn't recommend refacing. They don't do anything to the inside of the cabinets so your selves and the interior of the cabinets would be a different color than what you choose. I say go to Lowes and sit with a Kitchen Designer and go for new.

I had my cabinets refaced at my last home and it worked out great. It was a small, galley kitchen so I didn't want to spend a great deal of money on the kitchen and it was a vast improvement. I don't think the company is in business anymore (Island Wide Industries in Brentwood) because I tried to contact them to do the kitchen in my house now, but the phone number was out of orderChat Icon

My sister had her kitchen cabinets refaced also and they still look good 7 years later.

I had my cabinets refaced and countertops replaced by Kitchen Magic recently. We had replaced the appliances ourselves over the past 2 years. Now I just have to call around to get estimates on the tile backsplash and re-doing the floor.

If I was going to do all the work at once, I'd have gotten new cabinets, this was just a quick, inexpensive fix until we can afford to really do what I want (take down walls, vault the ceiling, etc)
