I saw my baby's heartbeat today!
Yay...it made me so happy...130 bpm. They guessed boy just based on the heartbeat.
Did anyone have a heartbeat under 140bpm and have a girl?

I think its a myth as a lot of the women state on here.
My 1st sono HB was around 173bpm which is really high.
Congrats on hearing the HB!  Its the best feeling!

It is a myth - but hey it has a 50% chance of being right...LOL
I have to wait until the 20th to go back and see the little bean again. I was too early for the heartbeat last time - but early enough for a sono photo.
How are you feeling? Are the bands helping?

Edited to add: as you said - typically boys heartrates are low, girls are high.. but my DS's heartbeat was always 160 and up .. before my Level II, all the nurses in my OBs office were convinced he was a girl -- but we were all wrong obviously

I think it's not so much a myth but more of a long drawn out process...you simply can't really base a GUESS on ONE heartrate measurement. My daughter's was really high over ALL the visits but a couple were borderline....granted, some babies have really high heartrates all throughout the pregnancy and are boys...my point is, don't base it off of one heartrate, but over the multiple heartrates they'll give you throughout your pregnancy. This is a better indicator than "how you're carrying" for sure b/c it's based off of normal medical instances.
And it's just TYPICALLY that girls have higher heartrates b/c they are stronger babies. [this is seen in preemies all the time...girls have a higher survival rate when born really early]

Yeah. Last time I went, our baby's heartbeat was 146. My friend and my cousin (both loudmouths ) both now SWEAR that it is a boy now.
But when DH googled it, it said anything over 140 was a girl. So who the freak knows!

How exciting! I get to FINALLY see my baby (SOOOO weird saying that) next Thurs. I'll be about 9.5 weeks, so I'm hoping to see the baby and hear the heartbeat....

Congrats on hearing the heartbeat It's such a wonderful sound, isn't it!!! I love hearing it at every appointment
I don't think you can tell the sex from any of those "old wives tales" - I'm having a girl and 1/2 were right 1/2 were wrong. I was on the fetal heart monitor once for an hour because she wasn't moving - and her heartbeat was anywhere from 140 -170 over that hour - so I don't think you tell.
