Mike Cameron and Carlos Beltran
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- New York Mets right fielder Mike Cameron was driven off the field on a stretcher and taken to a hospital after a diving, head-to-head collision with center fielder Carlos Beltran in Thursday's game against the Padres.
Cameron was conscious and alert, the Mets said. There were no other details on his condition.
Beltran left the game with a sore left shoulder and a cut to his face after the seventh-inning accident.
Cameron lay on the field for several minutes as he was tended to by trainers from both teams. He lifted up his head at one point, and shielded his eyes from the sun as he was put onto a stretcher and driven off the field. He had a neck brace on and was immobilized.
Beltran got up after a few minutes and walked off the field on his own power.
Both fielders went after a sinking liner by pinch-hitter David Ross with one out. Cameron was completely stretched out diving for the ball when he and Beltran collided, falling into a heap.
Neither caught the ball, which went for a triple. Shortstop Chris Woodward sprinted out to get the ball and throw it into the infield.

Re: Mike Cameron and Carlos Beltran
From Mets.com:
A CT scan on Cameron at San Diego's Mercy Hospital after the game revealed multiple fractures of both cheekbones and a broken nose. Cameron was placed on the 15-day disabled list and Victor Diaz was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to take his place on the roster.

That was a crazy scary play. Looks like Victor Diaz will be called up.
Lets not forget we still have a WC to chase. Must win games!

On the other hand... its plays like this that make me continue to want to watch the Mets.
They are an exciting team.... a team that doesn't "dog it" by any means. Its nice to see two guys going all out to make a play. Its just a shame what happened in the end.

nope definitely doesn't "dog it" but isn't calling for a ball in the baseball for dummies manual?
and to be honest...i would rather see them miss the ball then have them on the DL

"baseball for dummies manual" I totally agree, I cannot see why this happens so often with outfielders..
BUT anyhow... its very unfortunate nonetheless and I am not discounting the fact that the players put their "all" into it.. however, its a real shock to the Mets lineup ..

agreed, not to make light of what happened because health comes before baseball any day, but being 4 games out of the wildcard, this was real bad timing

Oh definitely , health comes first but for this to happen to 2 of your best players in the middle of a wildcard race, it really s*cks more than ever
Then I saw on the news that Cliff Floyd was hit in the knee while at the plate, and when then interviewed him he was pi$$ed!! I dont blame him at all, actually!!!
I haven't read much more about it, whose injuries were worse- beltran or Cameron?

Not if one person can't hear the other person calling for the ball.
Cameron will be out for the rest of the season probably. Beltran probably a week.

Re: Mike Cameron and Carlos Beltran
My DH looked away everytime they showed the play after the first time. He is squeamish and couldn't watch it. I agree with Red Head in that someone should have called it!!! I said the exact same thing to DH, shouldn't someone say"I got it, I got it?" I am a Met fan and I hope that they get into that wild card spot!

It was a very dangerous play.
I hope they make the wild card spot but I'm really not sure anymore.
