Where did you get your color ideas?

Just curious, how did you get your ideas for painting rooms?

Re: Where did you get your color ideas?

We chose our master bedroom and our guest room paint colors based on the bedding we are using in those rooms. For the office, we just chose a light blue that we liked, and for the nursery, it will depend on the gender of the child.

We haven't repainted den, kitchen, living or dining room yet. Not sure how we will choose those... It helps to look at pictures in magazines...

We just bought the HUGE color wheels from Benjamin Moore and then we're picking what we like from there. They make samples in all the colors, they don't always look the same on the wall as they do on the color wheels.

honestly, i copy rooms from catalogs, like Pottery Barn, but change up the furniture/accessories while keeping the general look and feel!

Usually we just go by a color we like and then choose a decor that works with the color, or vice versa. For example, we found a bedding set that we fell in love with for the baby's nursery, so now we're going with a paint color that matches it.

Re: Where did you get your color ideas?

Our bedroom was based on the bedding so we did "Adobe Beige" by Benjamin moore.
For the office we wanted somehting cheery and different from the rest of the house so we did "Blue Stream" by benjamin moore.
The kitchen, LR, and DR are all open now and are 1 room, so we decided to go with a neutral paint color... we did a beige color "Barely Beige" by Benjamin Moore. We are tiling the backsplash in the kitchen so the paint won't really show in there... and we plan on using bold colors for the curtain in the LR and rug in the LR, rug and decorations in the DR.

Home Depot has these little cards with different color schemes. We actually used one of their suggested palettes for our kitchen, and all the colors looked great together.

In our bedroom we also worked around the color of our comforter. We did an accent wall in a deep plummy color called Estate Vineyard and the other walls were a pinky beige called Pebbled Courtyard.

We have a green couch and chair in the living room, and an area rug with a light golden tan background. We are going to use that golden tan color on the walls.

Re: Where did you get your color ideas?

My cousin painted her bedroom green and I loved it, so that's what I chose for my Bedroom.

For kitchen, I picked up a color in the tile on the floor..

LR, Hallway, DR - I kept neutral.

Bathrooms - one is green..the one in my bedroom. The other is a deep purple color..I based that off of our spare room...we kept that color the same as what it was when we moved in...

Re: Where did you get your color ideas?

DH and I are currently painting the entire interior of our house right now with Benjamin Moore. Already finished Living Room (Pottery Red), Hallway (Cappuccino)and Bathroom (Appalachian Spring) . We knew what colors we wanted, so DH and I just went through a bunch of the BM paint chips until we found the shade we both liked. I found the paint chips to be extremely accurate - the colors were identical on the wall as they were in the chip sample! We're hoping to get started on the bedroom and kitchen over the long holiday weekend Chat Icon

Oooh, how did Estate Vineyard turn out for you? I was looking at that color for the Living Room before we decided on using Benjamin Moore instead. I'd love to see pics if you have any? Chat Icon Thanks!
