How is it that 2 kids, from the same parents can be so different?

I watched my neices today, my sisters 2 daughters. They are 9 and 5, and I swear they are like night and day. I love them both to death, but the older one is just sooooo high maintenance, totally boy crazy, very loud, and can really get under my skin. The younger one is so calm and easygoing, plays so great independently, is a tomboy, and so polite.

You wonder how that happens!

My nephews, ages 6 and 2 1/2 are just like that. I think that the younger child takes the available niche in the family. They may see that the older child makes their parents yell or causes disruption in the house, and thus, acts differently. Also, they may find that they get more positive attention from being calm and polite, as opposed to the negative attention that the older sibling receives.

YES!!! My 2 kids are VERY different. My dd is VERY hyper (she has been diagnosed with ADHD and is currently on medication which has worked wonderfully with school). My ds is much calmer. Yes, he is stubborn sometimes but he can sit still for sooo much longer than my dd.
I love them both to death but my dd is such a handful sometimes and has ALWAYS been.
