Freaking out (sorry Long post)

Last night I had a horrible night. I woke up a 3AM and my throat was so swollen, plus I was sweating, like I had broken a fever. I never run fevers so now I am panicked. I try to go back to sleep only a half hour later I wake up and my sinuses are killing me! I had sinus problems last week and now this. I HATE being sick. I wake up DH because I am really panicing, he was great but did not get back to sleep until 5:30AM and woke up at 6:30 AM for work. I feel so bad that I woke him up.

So, I call my OB this AM, they said to call my MD. I call the MD they say to call the OB. I left messages for both and are waiting for them to call back. I don't want to take anything, because I am afraid.
I am high risk because of my heart condition and this whole fever thing has me so worried about the baby. Ladies, I need words of assurance, please tell me that a fever is no big deal. I keep telling myself to calm down, that everything is OK, but I am still very nervous. I called my MD and OB an hour and a half ago...Why are they not calling me back?

Ok, relax. That's the first thing. Next, if you have a fever, TAKE TYLENOL! If you cannot or will not take that, then you need to get a wash cloth soaked in cool water and put it on your head. A fever is dangerous for the baby if it's too high, so make sure you monitor it. If you are that scared and the dr. is not calling back, go to the ER! I think you will be ok, honey. I'm very sick right now, as well with something that sounds very similar to you, but I broke down and took a half a dose of Tylenol Cold last night and it really helped. Hang in there and feel betterChat Icon

I'm sorry you don't feel well. I had strep and an ear infection last week. They gave me an antibiotic and I'm starting to feel a lot better. I also had a fever and the OB said that the baby will be fine. I called my OB, he said to see my primary care dr and then call him (the OB) with the prescription to make sure that it's safe for the baby. My MD was really nervous to prescribe anything since he said he doesn't see to many preggos since we all usually just see the OB while we are pregnant and he wasn't confident that he was completely up to date on what the FDA said is safe to take. Once I told him that my OB wanted to approve the medication he felt a lot better.

Good luck, I hope your doctor calls you back soon!

Re: Freaking out (sorry Long post)...Updated.

Thanks Ladies Chat Icon
The MD called back and so did the OB. I am seeing my MD at 2:45 today. They told me to take tylenol and not to worry. I need to get a throat culture to rule out strep. I feel much better now that I know what is going on. Thanks again.

Last Monday I also had a fever and a soar throat, I was achy and congested. Both the OB and GP told me I can take Tylenol. It should be fine. Just take tylenol, rest and see what the doctor says. It is very common for pregnant women to get sick because all out nutrients go to the baby before us. It will be OK. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Dina- glad you are feeling better! Was your fever very high? I'm sure everything will be okay- the tylenol is safe and will make your fever go down.

Re: Freaking out (sorry Long post)

OK. Just got back form the MD. I have an upper respiratory infection that is viral. The MD did not prescribe anything, just tylenol only if I have a fever. They also did a throat culture to rule out strep, but MD does not think it is strep. I also took a flu test and it is not the flu.
I feel better now that I know what it is but I feel like cr@p. Chat Icon Thanks for all the get well wishes girls! Chat Icon
