Question for those who have or are familiar with inground pools - Please help

We have a 30,000 gal in ground pool (just moved in about 2 weeks ago.) We had the pool openned about 2 weeks ago and the levels are ok, only the cholorine is still pretty high (10 when it should be about 3-5). Anyway my DH thinks he needs to leave the filter on all day every day until the levels are good, I think it's crazy and we've had it on for almost 2 full weeks (my electrical bill is going to be a million $$$).

OK so neither one of us has experience with owning a pool and all our family members have an above ground and I'm not sure if they are maintained differently. Can someone with experience tell me how to properly run the filter so my electric bill doesn't cause us to go bankrupt!!!

chemicals are the same whether above or inground. did your DH check the PH and the alkalinity too? he may have to adjust those levels as well, the pool should not be running everyday. Dont go in there until the chlorine levels are closer to the recommended level or your eyes will burn. Remember the alkaline and the cholrine kill the algae meaning your pool wont turn green. The pool should be on at least 4 times a week for a few hours to circulate the water or as often as you are in it. good luck!

Yes we took the pool water to a pool store to be tested and all the levels are fine except the cholorine.

I was just concerned with running the filter 24/7. I think I'm going to turn it off tomorrow night.

What type of chlorine are you using?
tablets or granulated?
Where do you put the chlorine when you put it in the pool?

my DH does it, some I'm not sure if its tablets or granulated. I'd guess tablets and they go in a "basket" that is built into the cement next to the pool. Same place you put the vacuum hose into.

Do you have a timer? We have one and it runs for 8 hours or so a day?

Just my opinion but you may want to switch from the tabs to the granulated chlorine---it breaks down quicker and most of the time the chlorine concentration is higher----that might help you boost your cholorine levels---also just double up on the scoop every other day and see if that helps.
