Anyone NOT taking lamaze?

I had my first lamaze class scheduled for last Friday evening (had to leave work early and everything). Well the instructor never showed up. Apparently she changed the date of the class and "forgot" to call me. So now not only is it to late for me to get into another class before my due date - I'm SO turned off by the whole thing, and just want my money back.

I keep hearing different things about lamaze - Some people say it's great and worth the money - Other people say it's a waste of time, especially if you plan on an epi.

What are you girls doing? Am I crazy for now not wanting to be bothered with lamaze?

Sorry this is so long - My question turned into a long vent.....Chat Icon

Re: Anyone NOT taking lamaze?

not us! DH works retail and will not be able to fit it into the holiday rush, so we're skipping it. My SIL will be there and I think we're going to have a doula also.

Re: Anyone NOT taking lamaze?

We didn't bother. It would've been a waste of money and DH would've had to take the day off of work, thus losing us more money.

Re: Anyone NOT taking lamaze?

I took it and ending up having a c-section and not even needing it. I ran into another woman who was in my lamaze class and they are scheduling her for a c-section this week because her baby was big also! You don't always need it. I liked the security of knowing I did it, but when it came down to it I could have saved the $150.

Re: Anyone NOT taking lamaze?

I think you should try and take some kind of class.
Dh and I are taking a 3 class series and we did the breathing for probably 10 minutes, the rest is mostly about what to expect during labor and delivery, including a possible c section.
We have one more class that will be about infant care and breastfeeding.
Most places (including the person our class is with) offer a one full day class so you only have to go once, you may be able to fit that in before you are due.
Everybody is different, I feel better that I am taking it.
MrsR recommended this class to me, let me know if you want the info!

I would say not to worry about it if you plan on having an epi. If you plan on natural it might be helpful.

Re: Anyone NOT taking lamaze?

Well I took lamaze with my first, the breathing totally helped me because I was in labor for 29 hrs. I ended up with a c-section in the end.
I won't be taking a lamaze class this time around since I will prob have a c-section again.

Re: Anyone NOT taking lamaze?

I never took it. I was told by everyone that you don't really need it. By the time you go into labor, and are feeling everything you won't care how you breathe! Chat Icon

Re: Anyone NOT taking lamaze?

We're not ! I was surprised my Dr. wasn't upset because he is very conservative- but we are buying that lamaze DVD that is advertised on here.
