Update on our ongoing formula saga...

So, we spoke to the pediatrician again today, and he is concerned because her reaction to the Alimentum was not a normal one. He prescribed her Neocate and we are going to see how she does with that. We are going to meet with the ped. and then set up an appt. with a gastro if this formula does not work. Wish us luck that this formula works!Chat Icon

Good luck! We went through a formula trial phase too, it is very hard.

We finally settled on Enfamil lactose free.

Re: Update on our ongoing formula saga...

Have you tried Nutramagin (by Enfamil)? Only asking because Nutramagin didn't work for Katie but Alimentum did - they are similar but not exactly the same.

We were on Neocate for a little bit too but it constipated her so bad I had to give her a suppository THREE times within a week and a half - it was the ONLY way she could poop - she was miserable.

Did you ped ever try you on the other formulas by Similac and Enfamil - such as Gentle Ease, Pro Sobee, etc? Those are made for colicky/spitty/lactose intolerant babies.

Neocate is expensive...very expensive. About $35-40 per CAN depending on where you get it. I direct ordered it from the manufacturer and you can only order it by the case with a minimum order of 2 cases (except your 1st order, they'll allow you to order 1 case).

I hope you guys find something that works, I know how hard it is.

How is the baby's weight gain?

Re: Update on our ongoing formula saga...

Right now Ava is gaining weight very well. She is not having any problems because she's still only getting my BM. We are going to try the Neocate. We're currently waiting for the insurance company to approve it so we only have to pay a copay every month. But that's if it works.
As for the Nutramigen, the dr. didn't want to mess around since she couldn't even keep the Alimentum in her. If I go out and purchase any more formulas, my husband is going to kill me. He doesn't think I should be "messing" with what Ava is eating. I think he's p-ssed at me for wanting to switch to formula, but that's a whole different issue. Anyway, I just don't know what to do anymore. I'm going to try the Neocate and pray that it works.
