Record snowstorm kills 3 in western New York
OMG!!!!! wasn't it 75 degrees here a few days ago? 
BUFFALO, New York (AP) -- A rare early October snowstorm that buried parts of the Great Lakes region under as much as 2 feet of snow was blamed Friday for at least three deaths in New York state, widespread blackouts and stranded travelers.
The wet, heavy snow downed tree limbs and toppled power lines, leaving 350,000 homes and businesses without electricity in western New York and closing schools, officials said.
Workers on snowmobiles delivered food and water to motorists stuck along the New York Thruway, which was shut down for more than 100 miles by the storm.
Two people died in traffic accidents blamed on the storm -- one in Niagara County and the other in Lancaster -- and another person died after being hit by a falling tree limb while shoveling snow in Amherst, the Erie County Health Department said.
"All the trees are down. No power," said Buffalo resident Ron Pellnat, surveying the damage. "It's Friday the 13th, how about that?"

OMG! My Aunt & Uncle just went there to visit my cousin @ BU for Family weekend!! Oh geeze- I hope they bought their skis w/ them!

Yes, it is truly crazy up here. Not the snow part, but the trees and power. Thankfully we just came back online today.

This is part of an email my cousin sent me today - she is in Buffalo.
"We didn't have power for about 48 hours, i broke out of buffalo and
headed to marks yesterday, but the word on the street is that our apt
has power again...so hopefully things will return to normal. But it's
crazy there, no tree is left completely standing, its a war zone.
They're not expecting full restoration of power until next sun. So i'm
just thanking god that we got our power back so quickly."
