Re: Question for anyone who got back in touch with an old friend...

I reconnected with a close friend from HS a few years ago, and we have been tight ever since.

I think we have both changed for the better since HS, so there wouldn't be a repeat of the same bs that killed the friendship the last time.

Good luck!

Re: Question for anyone who got back in touch with an old friend...

i recently got intouch with a friend from college, she found me on the "classmates" website. so we emailed a couple of times. we were pretty close for a year or two, then we had a falling out. so i figured since she was the person to reach out to me first, she had changed and become a different person. well we meet for lunch one day, and i suddenly remembered why i stopped talking to her. that was our first and last lunch date. and i have since left "classmates". so it was not a good experience for me.

Re: Question for anyone who got back in touch with an old friend...

I did!!!

She was my best friend from childhood, like a sister to me. We had a falling out in college.
DH knew how much I missed her and meant to me and went ahead and invited her to our wedding. I was really annoyed at first because he did this behind my back.
HOWEVER, she did show up for my shower and wedding and we started speaking again. Now we talk constantly and our relationship is better than ever!!!!
In fact, she started seeing one of DH's best friends and I think I see a Chat Icon Chat Icon in the future.
I think our situation worked out so nicely because a: be did have such a great bond, we were practically members of each other's family and b: we both grew up a lot.

Every situation is different though but if it means so much to you it is very worth a shot.
I know I personally love to hear from old friends with whom I was close with.

ETA: Good luck!!!Chat Icon

Re: Question for anyone who got back in touch with an old friend...

I've done it and it has gone both ways. For me, the people I enjoyed getting back in touch with were genuinely good people, it was just change of circumstance and location that caused us to drift. The ones that didn't really go anywhere after the initial re-connect were friends who I stopped talking to for a reason, and was reminded of it when we met again.

Good luck! If nothing else, it will be interesting to see what comes of it.

Or, did you just exchange a few emails, have dinner and go your separate ways?

This was my experience...we had just gone our separate ways and didn't really have much to talk about anymore.

Re: Question for anyone who got back in touch with an old friend...

After about 19 years I finally got back in touch with one of my college roommates. We were very close but something happened and when we left school me never spoke again. The first time we saw each other, it was like yesterday! We have stayed in constant contact ever since. It's been great!

Re: Question for anyone who got back in touch with an old friend...

this happened to me with a few different people

with one it turned out ok, with 2 it did not.

with the 2 that it did not work out. we sent a few emails back and forth and that was pretty much the end of it. that was about 6 yrs ago.

sometimes it's hard to let go, but life goes on.

Same here. Got in touch with my one of my best friend from High School via Classmates. Got together with her for one dinner and it all came flooding back WHY I chose to remove this person from my life. Haven't heard from her since!Chat Icon

I reconnected with a friend from college. We were very close at the time but that changed.

Since we started speaking, when we do talk (mostly thru email) it's almost like nothing ever changed. But at the same time we dont make the effort to actually hang out so I definitely don't feel as close to her as I used to.

Re: Question for anyone who got back in touch with an old friend...

I called up an old friend and invited her over. She came over and we talked like old times. We said that we'd get together but we never called each other again. I felt that I made the attempt to reconnect and that she should make an effort and call me if she wanted to hang out. I'm still waiting....Chat Icon

Re: Question for anyone who got back in touch with an old friend...

I did and I was rather disappointed.

I knew someone who I considered my best friend since the age of two. We grew up together and stayed close through high school and even through college. It was like we each had two families because we were in each other's houses all the time. After college and grad school, we drifted apart. There was no fight or falling out, but we just went our separate ways. She contacted me right after 9/11 to see if she could spend the Jewish Holidays with my family as her family was in FL and she didnt think she would be able to fly. Even though we hadnt spoken in about 4 or so years, she was welcome - she would always be welcome. Needless to say, she was able to get a flight and I didnt hear from her since.

FAST FORWARD to last year when my father was ill. It was a matter of time before we knew he would pass and I felt she would want to know as we had been so close. I went through every channel possible to locate her and found she was still in NYC - same place where she had been the last time we spoke. She called me back and I filled her in. She sounded sincere about how sad she was and perhaps that was the truth. But about 3 months later, when Dad finally passed, I called her to let her know. I knew she would not be able to make the funeral as Jewish funerals are very soon after a death and people cannot always rearrange their schedules. BUT my family DID sit shiva for one week and she said she would make it her business to see us in that time frame. She didnt. She didnt call. She didnt come. I havent heard from her at all.

The whole thing wouldnt have bothered me so much if she weren't a THERAPIST!!! You would think someone who counsels others for a living would have some level of empathy. No, it just showed me that I wasted my time.

Re: Question for anyone who got back in touch with an old friend...

I have and 1 of them who 'was" my best friend tried to stab me in the back - again- why we lost touch to begin with! Sometimes things left behind are that way for a reason!
