Baby clothes question...
So I was just going through all the gifts I got from my showers, and I am noticing that a lot of the clothes are the wrong season, like 6/9 month old outfits that are for the summer, but it'll be winter when she's 6/9 months old. I mean, I know I need to wait and see how big she is, but can I exchange clothes if I don't have a receipt? I don't even know where most of this stuff came from. I never thought about the fact that the clothes might be the wrong season!

Re: Baby clothes question...
I know from my friends kids- that they were like 4 or 5 months and wearing the 6-9's already- the only kid I know that actually was true to the size is a preemie (born 2 months early)..

Re: Baby clothes question...
i'm dealing with the same thing...
i don't have too many out of season, but there are some. i am going to wait and see as people say not all sizes are created equal and some items may shrink. i have some 6 month spring outfits that look small, but if they are true to size we'll be in winter!

Re: Baby clothes question...
I had some outfits that were obviously the wrong season. I brought them to BRU and they scanned them and were able to tell me if it was theirs or not. Macys and Kohl's can probably do the same thing. Other than that, I ended up donating a couple of outfits (like sundresses that were 6-9 months that I know she won't wear) to my church. They were having a "Baby Shower" and were looking for things for needy new moms.
ETA: you will probably use warm PJs in any season. Even in the summer, with the AC on it can get chilly for a baby. I probably wouldn't return any of those.

Re: Baby clothes question...
I think you should be able to exchange the clothes for different sizes without a problem

Re: Baby clothes question...
You'd be surprised how quickly the move into the bigger sizes. My girlfriend's little girl was in 3-6 month clothes before she was a month old (granted she was over 10lbs when she was born)
Sarah was 7lbs 6 oz at birth and wore 0-3 months until she was almost 2 months, 3-6 until she was about 5 months. HTH!

Believe me you will unfortunatley end up with a lot of clothes that never get worn for one reason or another. Maybe you can use some as gifts or donate them.

I wound up doing a lot of donating or if I really liked the outfit saved it for the next baby (which was the complete opposite sex anyway).
If you want, post the brand names on the Parenting Board. A lot of us can probably help match brand names to stores.

Re: Baby clothes question...
Thanks everyone. I have already, believe it or not, donated a TON of clothes. JT's cousin has three girls and has given us BOXES upon boxes of baby clothes, we kept some and donated so many others. I will definitely not be exchanging them or returning them just yet because who knows how big or small she'll be, but it's good to know options if I need them I will definitely take a look at the brands and post them on the parenting board, that's a good idea Barbara. And maybe some of us have stuff we can swap? We should do that, organize a baby clothing swap for all the out of season clothes we all get!

Re: Baby clothes question...
Another option if you have the space is to keep them until next summer, baby clothes does pretty well on ebay, espcially brand names and Gymboree.

I have to say I love the idea of a swap. You may want to hang on to them even if you know she won't fit - I met a frustrated mom in BRU once. She was looking for summer clothes because she was bringing her baby to FL. They didn't have anything left since it was November. I mailed her a bunch of off season summer clothes that Maddie never wore.
This site is the best though...I've gotten rid of maternity bras, a Baby Bjorn, photo albums, books, bottle warmer & now maternity clothes. I don't have the time or patience to post things on craigslist or ebay. I love the idea of people passing down what everyone else needs.

Re: Baby clothes question...
Barb, if you could see the mounds of clothes I have, you'd know I have enough to take her on vacation for two weeks in the dead of winter in the Caribbean and STILL have plenty to swap People have been so generous to us, I swear. I feel so blessed, but like me, I guess they just saw cute little outfits and bought them without thinking about the size/season. We'll see, I could have a hepher of a baby who is in those six month shorts during her first two months!
