Re: I'm feeling really annoyed right now. LONG VENT

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon being a new mom is SO frustrating! And it's even harder on those who don't do what we do ALL DAY LONG. They have NO idea how a simple task like taking a shower can take ALL DAY to get done.

I'm sure Ava's AR is taking a toll on many of you and your family. It's extra work, extra concern, etc.

Maybe JT didn't call you at your moms' because he thought YOU were getting some sleep and your mom was taking care of her for you for the night.

6 months later, I STILL Feel guilty asking Richie for help when I've been home all day and he worked.

ETA: being a parent is something new and unknown and takes a COMPLETE adjustment in your everyday living routine....same as when you get married and start living together. It takes TIME.

He's a total jerk. You should dump him.

Just kidding...I'm hoping you feel the need to defend him. I'm sorry you're having a hard time...repeat...it's temporary, it's temporary.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Maybe you can try leaving Ava with your mom for a few hours and going for a mani/pedi or just going home and taking a bath. Anything to relax. If your mom doesn't mind, of course, which I'm sure she wouldn't.Chat Icon

Those first days and nights can be so hard on both the new mom and the new dad. Chat Icon

You know what...he probably appreciated that break you gave him last night and took it as an opportunity to do nothing...which is okay. It would've been okay if you did it too. But he didn't say thank you or acknowledge it. I would've been hurt and upset also at the fact that he didn't call and didn't react differently upon seeing his daughter and you.

You need to have a chat with him. Not a yelling match, not a blame game, just a conversation. This is going to sound dorky but he probably doesn't even realize what he did wrong so you say to him "JT - when you came in and didn't say hello to me and the baby, it upset me." And try to use a "nice" voice. I find that biting my cheek and taking deep breaths helps. But keep the breathing in check otherwise you'll approach him like a bull ready to charge. (Also think happy thoughts so you don't rip him a new one like you really want to.)

Once he acknowledges your feelings, you'll feel a little better. Then pick your battle. You can't harp on him about all three things (or more Chat Icon ) that he did wrong at once. Remember, he's struggling with being a new parent too. So once he acknowledges what the problem is (and trust me, right now he is probably completely oblivious) try to let it go really quickly. Better for you and him.

Lather, rinse, repeat. This will happen often and sometimes it will have to be him that reminds you when you are being less than thoughtful so better to learn to communicate it now.

Re: I'm feeling really annoyed right now. LONG VENT

Thanks girlsChat Icon I truly appreciate all of you and your advice. It really helps. I'm not ready to deal with him, but I think it's just because I'm tired, hungry and cranky. In true man-fashion, he's already moved on like nothing ever happenedChat Icon I'll talk to him about it tomorrow because I'll only rip his eyes out if I do it tonight.
I have to say, the last few weeks have been the most confusing in terms of how I'm feeling. On the one hand, I feel annoyed that he doesn't do enough, then on the other hand, I'm constantly feeling guilty if he IS taking care of the baby. I have not relaxed for a single second in 5 weeks. I feel guilty when I'm not with Ava or taking care of her myself, but totally overwhelmed and cranky when I'm the ONLY one taking care of her. I'm like walking, talking contradictionChat Icon

I hate to be the one to tell you this - but it's a new step in your life - and you'll feel that way for awhile. I used to hand DH the baby the minute he walked in the door - and then 3 minutes later I wanted him back. Also the overwhelming "I'm not a good mom" because I want help %ucked for me. It took a while before the expression "It takes a village to raise a child" set in. Now I'm much better - except for tonight when Maddie told Daddy she wanted to lay down with him ---and I was lalready on the bed.Chat Icon

I STILL feel like that. I swear when you give birth to a baby, you start to feel guilty about EVERYTHING. I guess it just comes with the territoryChat Icon
