Breastfeeding moms

How do you feed your baby while you're out? Do you bring a bottle of pumped milk or do you nurse while you're out? If you nurse, where do you do it? I'm not really that comfortable nursing in public.

Normally when I am out it is at a family - friends house so I am comfortable. If we are out else where, I nurse in my truck, tinted windows Chat Icon

Re: Breastfeeding moms

In the beginning I used pumped bottles - then he stopped taking the bottle and I just went out when I knew he was full. In worst case scenerios, I'd do it in my car.

I haven't gone out yet but I know Bloomingdales and Nordstroms have a ladies lounge area and I have seen women breastfeed their.

I nursed in public... I didn't have a problem with it... I just draped a blanket over my shoulder, not as if you could see anything anyway.

Guess I'm the freak of the group. I nurse in public if my baby is hungry. I've found I get more dirty looks when my baby is fussing then I do if I'm nursing. I think that its a lot more common here though (Cambridge, MA) than it is on Long Island. With a nursing tank on, no one can see anything but the back of the baby's head anyway.

Depends. I would never sit in a mall and nurse, I would find a ladies lounge or even go into a fitting room and nurse. But yes, I nursed in public, just not in the blaring public eye. I very rarely brought bottles of pumped milk, except for maybe if we were at a Church service or something were I wouldn't nurse him.

Re: Breastfeeding moms

I never bring a bottle anywhere,
to me that is one of the beauties of breastfeeding, don't have to worry about making bottles and bringing them with you,
all I need is Me!!

I nurse in the car when I am out, also have a extra boppy in the car which I used when michael was younger,
I even used to bring the boppy into restaurants.
Then really need to make a traveling bobby, maybe a inflatable one.

I have nursed in the mall, depending on the seating, sometimes if they don't have good sitting I have gone into a dressing room (only like 2x)
I have nursed in plenty of restaurents,
and even nursed on the boardwalk (the summer when its beach season - I wont do it when its majorally crowded)

Since Michael is older now, I really don't do it as much.
but have no problem nursing in public.
I just go used to it.

best of luck
and I highly recommend getting a extra boppy and leaving it in the car,
also great for when I was visiting friends and family.

PS also nursed on airplane with a BIG man sitting next to me! (he took over the hand rest)
as you can see I got over the shy factor, thank goodness,
also learned how to be incognito about it
