OIL vs. GAS Conversion

Question - Has anyone done the Oil to Gas conversion? If so can you give me a rough guestimate on how much this will cost.

I have oil in the house now and I personally don't like oil for certain reasons, like cooking and drying clothes and such.

Thoughts and opinions please.

Thanks.

You need to ensure Gas lines have been run in your area. Are others on your block converting?

Gas is cleaner and cheaper but I'm not sure about the cost to convert.

I heard it can cost between 4-5k for the conversion for heating. Like someone posted, you have to be sure there is a gas line near your home. When we called to convert from electric to gas (for cooking) Keyspan said they'd do the first 100ft to the house for free.

Can you get it done cheaper if you get your neighbor to go in with you?

don't know about costs but IMO, it would definitely add value to your house. natural gas burns cleaner and is more efficient. most of the country uses gas for heating, not sure why oil is prevalent around here. Chat Icon

Re: OIL vs. GAS Conversion

we had a gas conversion done about 4 years ago and it costs about $5K

We already had the gas line in the street, so Keyspan just had to bring the line to the house. We also got a free burner and hot water tank from Keyspan.

Our price also included removal of our old inground tank

This is the BEST thing we did for our house!! I LOVE gas! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I know that Keyspan is running a deal for people who are converting from oil to gas.

Re: OIL vs. GAS Conversion

I live on a corner so there is a gas line running on both sides. My oil burner looks so old and I am afraid its gonna konk out.

I got Keyspan's number, I am gonna price it out to see how much it costs.
