Re: Those of you with children in school
Yes.... no nuts allowed. One of the children has an allergy and they don't want to take the risk that she would eat someone else's lunch or snack, which is completely understandable IMO...

Re: Those of you with children in school
They have a peanut free zone at lunch in the cafeteria but we are allowed to send in some peanut products but I am being cautious and not sending in any.

Re: Those of you with children in school
No nut allergies in the class so we can send in peanut butter sandwiches.
Children aren't allowed to share food under any circumstances.

Re: Those of you with children in school
Hi Moms, My DD Ava just turned 2. She is peanut allergic. I am glad to see that all of you are soo understanding of the situation. My cousin has a peanut allergic 2nd grader and she is having a really hard time with his school. She is considering moving just to get him into a "safer" school district- one that takes his allergy seriously.

In the district where I teach, no food is allowed in school at all. It is the new wellness policy established by the BOE.

Re: Those of you with children in school
My WHOLE building is peanut free-
I cant began to tell you how many parents flip out over this (esp. during camp season)~ It makes me so mad- ESP. since we have a microwave and stove in the building and a parent can bring in ANYTHING- and the teacher can heat it...
This past summer- there were 2 children that the parents threatened to pull if we didnt let them have their PB&J
So they ate lunch in the office with us everyday!

Re: Those of you with children in school
My niece's school has a Nut free classroom in every grade. If other kids bring in nuts in other classrooms, is that an issue for the one in the other class with the allergy?
I'm very curious about this. I ate PB&J every day at school, just so I know if I ever have to send my niece to school in the morning and make her lunch (when I do bring her to school, my SIL has packed the lunch already)

Re: Those of you with children in school
My nieces school is also nut free. This is a "just in case rule". She is a poor eater and PB&J is one of her staples. In a way it's good and forces her to try other things that other kids are eating. I totally understand this policy. I wear latex free gloes at work "just in case" a patient is allergic...anaphylaxis is a scary sight!
