Half-Bath-Tile or No tile?
My DH and I have been arguing about this. He thinks that we should be tile in the half bath and I think tile should only be in full baths (w/shower) What is the real purpose of tile in the bathrooms? I thought it had something to do with the humidity/steam. What do you think?

most of the 1/2 baths that I have seen do not have tile except the floors.

Re: Half-Bath-Tile or No tile?
I think its just a design choice nowadays. It depends on the decor in your home. Tile is easier to clean, does he want to do all tile or 1/2 tile in the 1/2 bath? half and half would be really nice.

Same here. I love that look and I like that you can easily change the decor by painting, tiles while not permanent are not so easy to change down the line.

Re: Half-Bath-Tile or No tile?
I just gutted out my downstairs bathroom to the studs.
We decided to go tile up to the ceiling... and then paint the ceiling. It came out really good!

The real purpose of tile in the bathroom is to stop water damage. When you don't have tile on your walls/floors, you have a better chance of getting water damage. It is harder for the water to seep through the tile and damage the wood underneath. This is why it is more common to see in full baths and not 1/2 baths. I think it is all a matter of preference. I have seen with and without and like both.

Re: Half-Bath-Tile or No tile?
Our half bath has no tile just on the floor. We were thinking of adding wainscoting but not 100% sure what we want to do with it so it's just plain white right now and I hate it

Re: Half-Bath-Tile or No tile?
For 1/2 baths my personal preference would be paint - tile for the flooring.
I thought I heard somewhere that bathrooms with floor to ceiling tiling would increase the tax on the house...not sure if that's true..something about it being a luxury?

Re: Half-Bath-Tile or No tile?
What about wainscotting?? My half bath has wainscotting and pedestal sink.....looks real old fashioned I personally wouldn't do tile(besides floor) if the is no shower in the room.

Re: Half-Bath-Tile or No tile?
Our half bath has tile halfway up each of the four walls. I don't like it but it also came with the house. I would like to replace it with wainscoting but the full bath is much uglier and therefore a priority.
