Hair Color Question...

So I have to give up some of my "non-essentials" in life to afford our IVF costs.

One of the things that I have to give up is getting highlights. Chat Icon

So I'm going back to brunette.

I've been getting highlights for the last 3 years, are they going to have to do something special to get my hair darker or is it a simple process?

I'm almost tempted to do it myself at home, but I'm afraid of the results.

Anyone have experience with this? Any suggestions?

TIA! Chat Icon

Don't do it yourself! I think that as long as you're going darker it should just be a simple single process..good luck!

Re: Hair Color Question...

if yo have highlights then the brown my be lighter in the areas that had the highlights

it probably will look pretty the first time you do it...but by the second and third the highlight will be gone

ETA..i have to say i agree....

the first time...get it done professinally

if after that you want to do it yourself...i think that would be ok

Re: Hair Color Question...

i did the same thing..get it done professionally. its not worth the risk and could wind up costing you more in the long run

Re: Hair Color Question...

where do you go?

my old lady at Panache Plus charged me only $70 for hilights.

can you consider going to a cheaper place less often?

i dyed my hair brown and it turned red in a week. esp in the summer. the hilights underneath came right through.
so it may be just as expensive maintaining the brown color as it is the blonde.

but nonetheless please dont do it yourself at home!

Re: Hair Color Question...

I go to a salon in NJ and the highlights/cut cost me $200.

I've been to other places that are cheaper, but they were wrecking my hair.

I will eventually just be back at my natural color, but I don't want to be all "rooty" for the next few months. I'm hoping they can match my color and then I can just start to grow out natural.

Unless I find grey hairs. Then we might have to figure out what "non-essential" really means!! Chat Icon

maybe at first you could get lowlights to blend in more and it would be a more subtle changeChat Icon

Re: Hair Color Question...

I actually did the same thing last year. I have been highliting my hair for about 6 years, and was just so tired of getting roots. I had a single process to get back to my natural color. It looked great, but after about a month it just kept on getting lighter. You would have to keep going back to get it redone.

Maybe the first time you can go to a salon, and then once the highlights start showing after about a month, you can just do it yourself. I would definately get it done professionally the first time.
