new mommy here! (needs advice)
Hi! Just making my way over from the pregnancy board!
ALYSSA NICOLE was born last Tuesday, JUne 13 at 11:36 PM weighing in at 6lb 7 oz, 19 1/2 in long!
I am a nervous new mommy with a question for you ladies already! The first few days we had her home, she made a bowel movement 2x a day - the last few days only once, and today - none at all. She cries all night but doesnt make a peep all day. Not sure if she is having a tummy problm already? how many times a day should a newborn go to the bathroom? should I be concerned that she didnt go at all today?
Looking forward to swapping mommy info with you ladies!
~Dawn

Re: new mommy here!
Hi Congratulations!!!! Can't wait to see pics!
When I took Ryan home from the Hospital he ended up a little constipated. I would see if she goes tomorrow. If she doesn't and seems uncomfortable (you can see her tensing up) then call the ped. He had me give Ryan half a glycerin suppasatory (sory for spelling)
Good Luck!!!!

Re: new mommy here! (needs advice)
They all go more in the beginning and then it slows down. The peds say that as long as the stools aren't hard or formed it is fine. She may look like she is straining but my doc said that it is just the baby getting used to everything happening in its belly. Some babies don't go every day. Some go every 2 or 3 days. You have to figure out what is normal for yours, and if she strays from that then you may need to do something.
A few weeks ago, I was afraid that my baby was constipated because she hadn't gone in about 36 hours and I thought she was straining and crying in pain, so I called the doctor and was told to use a rectal thermometer to stimulate the bowels to empty. I did, and everything that came out was liquid. She obviously wasn't constipated. She just didn't need to go yet. I don't worry anymore about it.

When I took Ryan home - he didn't go for a couple of days and when I had him on the changing table not only was he straining but there was a tiny bit stuck in him. That's why the Dr had me give him the sup. and boy did a lot come out.
Good Luck

Re: new mommy here! (needs advice)
Welcome to parenting!
Dawn, are you EBF or using formula. I know that if you are EBF your DD should have 3 soiled/6 wet diapers in a 24 hour period. I don't know if it is the same for formula fed babies. I would start to track the diapers and the timing of feedings for the next 24 hours. I would also call your pediatrician.

Our DD in the beginning pooped sometimes every few days and at almost 3 months she is sure making up for it! We exclusively breast feed... Congratulations
