Anyone have a totally open floor plan home?

Our first floor is completely open...the kitchen, Dining Room, Living Room, and playroom are all open....how do you separate it? it has a cathedral ceiling up to a balcony with the bedrooms upstairs...does this make sense?Chat Icon

Re: Anyone have a totally open floor plan home?

If you have hard wood floors use area rugs and situate furniture so that natural conversation areas are created. Doy you have any focal points like a fireplace or tv? If it is a fireplace, then perhaps you can put a small sofa on either side or two large 1 1/2 arm chairs depending upon the scale of the room. with a coffee table in the center.

For a living room do you have a wall for a hutch or a wall with window for a sideboard? Near there place a table and chairs but keep some walking or comfort space.

As for the kitchen do you have an island or a nook for a table?

If it is an island will chairs do? or will you need a table and chairs?

If it is a table and chairs place a hanging lamp above it to anchor the table and chairs.

Look at the space in terms of what size furnature will fit in the space. Do not get over sized pices for a small room or it will look off.

How big are all the rooms?

Do you have any color preferences?

What color are all the walls painted? Is it one color or multiple colors?

Dimensions and window placement will also help be a guide.

Do you have existing furnature that you would like to incorpoarate or are you getting all new stuff?
