BTDT moms - walking question.

I am wondering how long the time period was from the time your kids started pulling themselves up, and walking with assistance - to walking on their own. (believe me I am not rushing it - I am just curious!!)

Probably about a month. It took a lot of bravery to let go that first time.

XP from my FM:

If you can encourage her to crawl first, it's great for brain development. Even if you're getting down on the floor with her to do it.

No shoes while at home. Pediatricians (and podiatrist) say that the best way to get them to walk is barefoot or socks. Her first shoes are going to be really hard ones with sturdy heels (hit Stride Rite). You buy them after she's taken her first steps on her own.

Thank you so much - this is really helpful. I have been encouraging her to crawl - I get on the floor with her - prop her on her knees (She seems to like the inch worm style) She goes backwards beautifully! Chat Icon

No matter how much crawling practice I do - she just looooves standing and walking...so maybe she will be an earlier walker - who knows.

Re: BTDT moms - walking question.

Here was Kevin...
Pulled up 7 months
cruising 8 months
stand unassisted 10 months
taking steps 11 months
walking 12.5 months (probably would have been sooner but in his 11th/12th month he got real sick and then had lactose intolerance with whole milk and pretty much stopped progress and went backward)

In the house, I pretty much used socks or robeez slippers, outside shoes.

Kevin pulled up about the same time he learned to crawl. He didn't get on all fours until early 7th month and master real crawling by the end of his 7th month which is about when he also started pulling up. At that time he would also walk if you held his hands - he even did that in his 6th month too. I really thought he was going to skip crawlling because I did as a kid but he didn't.
