Single Friends vs. Married Friends

I am basically the only married friend in my group. Also, I have been in the longest relationship of all my friends.

I hate when friends get boyfriends then they forget about the rest of us friends Chat Icon I understand they want to get to know eachother and they have that whole "honeymoon" phase, but I always made time for my friends when DH and I started dating.

I have one friend where every time she begins a relationship, she forgets about me. I know it sounds selfish, but i feel negelected. Chat Icon She consumes herself with this relationship and hangs out with his friends all the time and leaves no time for me. Then, when I say something, she thinks I am joking.

Does this happen to anyone else? I think I need to get more married friends.

I used to but now almost all are married. I guess I just saw it as a stage of life where the focus changed -like when you were getting married & focusing on your wedding. Eventually they made their way back to the friendship.

Ironically, I was the last to marry but sometimes I feel like some friends are less interested in my life now that I have a husband.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon unfortunately that seems to happen quite often with new relationships. It is not only with girls, DH has some friends that have done the same thing.

Thanks Rebecca. Maybe I just need more than 3 friends and I wouldn't feel so "neglected" Chat Icon

Re: Single Friends vs. Married Friends

To be honest, as a single person who has married friends, it worked the opposite for me. I found that when my girls got married, they became so absorbed in that, that they forgot about the rest of us that were still single. Kinda sucked honestly. So it does work both ways unfortunately.Chat Icon

Re: Single Friends vs. Married Friends

Honestly, I think we all go through periods of time where life "gets in the way" and we neglect friends and family for whatever reasons. The difference between the true friends and the fair weather ones are that the true ones do make the effort to keep the friendship alive, even if there are lulls.

I find staying in touch more difficult as a married person. My DH takes up more of my time now, I check with him before making plans and making plans as couples doesn't always work - not all the friends and spouses like one another equally.

Couldnt have said it better, myself. It could just be that you and your friends are in different stages in life.....

Re: Single Friends vs. Married Friends

I have been on both sides of this coin...
Been the friend who fell to the waist side when a friend started dating someone and def been the one to go a little MIA as well....

I don't think it is terrible. But as you get older true friends stick around and stay friends no matter what...

I know. Thanks for your words of encouragement ladies. I think I am just being a brat. Plus, she has to stick around, she is my sister (and my best friendChat Icon )
