To all the teachers here...THANK YOU
I went to an average Long Island public school district, Carle Place. I was always one of those kids who was bored with school and still managed to get really good grades. AS I entered high school, I started to become more interested in hanging out with a much older crowd, missing a lot of school(I never got in trouble because I was an A student ) and started dressing like, yes I admit it, a slut.
There are 2 teachers that I met that changed my outlook of life. Ms. E taught me American History and AP Euro History, and Mrs. C, taught me Euro history and AP American history. They were both young teachers, late twenties and late 30s, who were 2 of the most intelligent people that I''ve ever met till this day. Both were attractive, assertive, witty, and dedicated teachers. I looked up to them and decided that I wanted a kid one day to view me as an intelligent well accomplished individual as well. Fast forward 5 years, I graduated magna cum laude, am looking for a financial job, and decided to go to graduate school next year. I could have been easily swayed by social influences including MTV and such.
I'm going to have lunch with both of these teachers in June to express to them that they are my personal heroes. So, to all of you teachers out there, THANK YOU!!!!

Re: To all the teachers here...THANK YOU
Thank you so much. I teach AP World History (formerly European History)... it's A LOT of work.
I actually became a history teacher because I had a few great ones and one lousy one. I knew I had to be a history teacher because of the "lousy one"... I couldn't have more kids go through that experience.
We do the best we can with all of our hearts, minds and souls.
The best reward we can get is seeing our students become such responsible, intelligent, hard-working and compassionate adults.
Here's to you for following the right, and often unpopular, path

Here, Here I think teachers are truly special people who do such an important job and in my opinion aren't recognized nearly as much as they should be.

Re: To all the teachers here...THANK YOU
yesterday, my 9th period class (8th graders) was being a bit rowdy and one of the girls looked at me and said "are you glad you became a teacher?" i just laughed at her question, but in reality, i really am glad i became a teacher because of kids like her! I see some really awful kids, but I get to know a whole lot more really amazing people on a daily basis! I can't imagine doing anything else everyday

I agree wholeheartedly. It's a shame the priorities in this nation don't support the people who have such influence on our children.
My ILs were both educators. My MIL still keeps in touch with kids she taught over 25 years ago.
