Have my first RE Appt on Friday - what to expect?
I requested for my OB / GYN records to be sent over. My DH is meeting me there. It's for a consult. Will we just speak to the dr or do you think it will be speaking and an exam? I'm nervous!

Re: Have my first RE Appt on Friday - what to expect?
When I went for my consult, it was only talking. They would have done an exam but my insurance would only cover a consult for the first appointment. Basically, all they do is take a history and go over the process. If they do an exam, it will be an ultrasound and it's painless. They will also order a lot of bloodwork and a SA for your DH. My doctor explained the process from beginning to an eventual end. They go over some of the common reasons for infertility.

Re: Have my first RE Appt on Friday - what to expect?
Nothing to be nervous about, although I was , when I first went :) Now I live there :)
Not sure which RE you are going to, however, I had two experiences... since I had gone to two different consults.
My first consult was in Manhattan to a clinic that's associated with Columbia University. That consult involved nothing, except a list of overwhelming blood tests, dates to get the hsg exam and just an overload of information. In fact they wanted us to sign up for injectible classes before any treatment. lol I was like HUH ?? I never even took a med for this and now I am taking injectible classes ??? I left so very upset....
I then called RSofNY, my consult there was with Dr. Saketos. She has an aura about her, that just calms you. She listened to my history which wasn't much and then since I had been temping and my temp that day, was higher than normal, we did a baseline sono. It was approximately cd 10 of my cycle so a u/s was very telling. She saw my follies and assured me, I ovulate :) I felt like the weight of the world had been lifted and I was finally going to make progress :)
Basically a consult should involve a lot of exchange of information, however, the blood tests they have you do, can tell them a lot about you. If you have charts, I would bring them. If you are mid cycle, I may suggest to the dr, if you can have U/s.
What I have learned is that every clinic has their set protocols and you are just pretty much to proceed to a uniform protocol. The best thing you can do for yourself is understand these protocols and decide if they make sense for you. The more you understand the protocols and your body the more information you can give to the RE to assist you. If you have any questions what these are, just FM.

Thanks I don't have charts yet. I bought a BBT but have yet to use it I will be mid-cycle so I will try to ask for a sono.
I'm in NJ so I am going to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center and seeing Dr.Kemmann - he's a top fertility doc in NJ.
