When family visits you...

do you invite your side over separately from your Il's ? or do you invite both sides over together?

do your family have issues with who's side visits more often than the other?

when it comes to big holidays, do you have both sides over as well?

Majority of the time we have them all together. We like it that way especially that both sides of the family get along pretty well. It is always alot of fun.

We have seperate visits. We had a BBQ a couple of weeks ago for my fam and we're having one for his fam in a couple of weeks. We haven't hosted any holidays yet but that, I suspect, is going to be an issue.

My immediate immediate family is upstate, so when they stay for the week or weekend we usually invite the ILs over for a night, so everyone has the opportunity to GTG.

Re: When family visits you...

we do both... we live closer to DHs parents so we have family dinners with them on Sundays and probably see them more-to be honest they dont come to our house too often-i dont know why. My parents visit often and we go to LI to see them fairly often...

I forsee this changing soon though since we are leaving due to DHs job-my parents are moving into our house in CT (next few weeks) so when we come "home" my parents will be there... I think we will have a lot more with both sets which is fine, everyone gets alongChat Icon

Re: When family visits you...

We invite both together (mainly so I dont have to cook twice Chat Icon ) but separately is nice too so there is more one on one with the family.

Re: When family visits you...

We've done a couple of things together but main holidays are separate. Because we are Jewish, most of our holidays have more than one day and we can split our time evenly on Rosh Hashanah, Passover and Chanukah between the two families.

ETA:
Thanksgiving is a tough one though.
