1 hour glucose test question
When do you go for this- is it done at any lab?
What bloodwork is done between your 4th and fifth month?

Re: 1 hour glucose test question
I had my glucose test right at my doctor's office.. the nurse drew my blood ..
between 4-5th month .. hmm, I think they did the AFP bloodwork on me around that timeframe. I just had the glucose test done at about 26 wks PG ..

Re: 1 hour glucose test question
Excuse my ignorance, but what is the AFP for? My doctor is horrible with explainging things, pawns me off to the nurse and she is useless. All reasons why I'm changing offices!

Re: 1 hour glucose test question
The AFP test is another optional blood test that is used to try to detect Down's and Spina Bifida (sp?). Its usually done around 18 weeks. It doesn't guarantee that you will/won't have a baby with those issues, but it's used to help detect any possible issues early.
I'm 23 weeks now and still haven't done my glucose test. I think its around 28 weeks +/- a few.

Ugggh, I'm sorry your doctor's office isn't giving you the proper information when you need it .. it sounds like my previous OB's office, which is why I'm happy I switched!
The AFP is an optional blood test - you do not have to have it, but it should be offered to you. it is usually done between 16-18 weeks but I think you can have it done up until 20 weeks.. It is another 'screening' test that checks for various abnormalities.. This link can provide better information than I can explain ..
AFP blood test
The glucose test is usually done closer to 26 weeks , give or take -
