Plasma vs LCD TV
We have a small LCD in our kitchen, and are happy with it. We now want to get a large TV for our den.
We want to be able to hang it on the wall, can we do this with a LCD? And does anyone know the difference between that and a plasma??

My DH knows more about than I do, but don't get a plasma...we havea widescreen plasma and it's less than a year old an the burn on the screen is terrible! We have an LCD in our bedroom, much better!

Depending on how big of a screen you want, you may be narrowed in to one choice. We wanted a big screen TV and plasmas only go to about 49" so we got a 63" HD LCD. Very happy with it.

I believe you can buy an arm that attaches your tv to the wall...it extends out and stuff...a friend has it.
We have an LCD which DH chose (I have very little interest in technology, I just want to watch TV) because a plasma has a shorter life span...something about when the pixels (or whatever they're called) burn out they can never be repaired, whereas that won't happen with an LCD (I think).
I'm sure there are people who know a lot more about this than I do, but that's what I heard.

42inch Plasma and we love it!
Just get the warranty coverage on it and make sure it has a screen saver for is you pause things.
We put ours in our new entertainment center. It's a VERY TIGHT SQUEEZE.
We went with plasma so it can be viewed from all spots in our house since we have a very open floor plan

Correction:
You bought LCD REAR PROJECTION. Not a flat panel LCD like the OP is looking for. Major difference.
You cannot buy flat panel LCDs larger than 44 or 47" right now (at least from any store in the USA).
You can easily get 61" plasmas right now. Maybe even 70".

I just bought a second 50" plasma last week. I have two 50" plasmas now. My new plasma has a 60,000 hour half-life. This lifespan is FAR from short. Above average of use... will last you 15-20 years!
I also have no burn-in on either plasma. My old plasma is over 2 years old too!

Thank you everyone for the info!! I am going to show it to my DH and hopefully we will go this weekend!
Right now we have a huge monster 60' tv in the den from like 5 years ago. I hate it... Worst picture ever!! I can't wait to have a clear picture!!

I have also heard that you can't use video games on plasma tvs. They leave some kind of image behind and can ruin the screen....

Most shows aren't in widescreen so I leave it on a regular screen so now I have lines on the side burned in...looks bad when watching widescreen stuff.

The life on the newer Plasmas is 60,0000 to 80,0000 hours which is more than you will probably use. before you get a new TV. If any one that watches the TV is into video games I would recommend a LCD tv. Other wise if you have the extra $$ for a HD Plasma they by all means get the Plasmas. The Plasma TV has come a long was in the past couple of years.

You should never watch shows with the black bars on the screen (at least not on a regular basis). An occasional DVD is fine. You should always use the plasma's built in stretch mode that fills the picture on the entire screen.
When you want to make your decision on what to get... you have to consider the following factors.
If you spend any decent amount of time playing video games (at least 3-5 hours a day) or want to hook the TV up to your computer... forget plasma and get LCD to be safe.
If you want something 50" or larger... plasma is the way to go because it gives you the best cost vs. picture quality vs. size ratio.
To this day... I have yet to see a Rear Projection set (of any kind... DLP, LCD, LCoS)... that I liked because with Rear Projection... you have to be looking directly straight at it to get any sort of decent PQ. If you look at it even on the slightest angle... the picture quality is very much degraded.
Both plasma and LCD will give you an excellent picture that you can watch from almost any angle in the room. Just keep in mind that LCD is a lot more money. You can get 50" Hi-Definition plasmas now for under $2500 if you shop around.
I have two plasmas... but I also have a 27" LCD Hi-Def that I use for all my video games... and my computer. You just have to get the right technology that best suits your viewing habits.
If cash is not an issue.... get the Sharp Aquos 46" LCD.

The only thing that I've heard to be careful about with plasma is that the electric bill can spike. Only what I've heard, but I've heard it on more than one occasion.
