I stayed home from work tonight (long, sorry)
I usually work Saturday night into Sunday morning at one hospital and then go to a different hospital on Sunday evening (from 4-12). Well, when I was driving home from work this morning around 9:00, my car slid ALL OVER THE ROAD -- in every lane, turning sideways and eventually sliding itself down one of the side streets off the main street. I was able to stop the car about 3 feet short of crashing into a stop sign and hitting the curb. I then had to continue on, to get myself home. It was the first time I had ever really had trouble like that driving in the snow.
I finally got home and went to sleep for a few hours and when I got up at 2:00 to go to the other job, DH and I decided that I should not risk the trip from Stonybrook to Huntington to go to work. After what happened this morning I was really afraid of getting into an accident and putting the baby in jeopardy. So, I called my job (2 hours before I was due in, while the hospital policy is to call with at least 1 hour notice if you won't be there) and the other pharmacist I spoke to had the nerve to be annoyed at me for only giving them 2 hours notice!!! He said, "Well at this point we really thought you were going to come in. You really should have called sooner." I tried to explain that I was hoping that the road would be clear enough to drive safely, but that I was really afraid, being 7 months PG. He was very nasty, and had me questioning my decision to stay home. I just kind of figured that if the baby were here, I would never take it in the car on a day like today, so why should I just because it is still in my belly.
I'm really having a hard time being comfortable with my decision since I have NEVER missed a day of work due to weather in the past. I really just hope I don't get reprimanded or lose the job, because DH is out of work right now, and we really need it for the next few months. I'm nervous about what tomorrow will bring.

Re: I stayed home from work tonight (long, sorry)
Is this other pharmacist your boss? How dare he question you about your reasons for staying home. You shouldn't have to explain yourself! Then after explaining you, he still had the nerve to put his 2-cents in and make you feel guilty about staying home. You should never feel guilty about staying home for the safety of you and your baby, especially since you abided to the rules of calling in over an hour ahead of the time you were due in. He was probably just PO-ed that he wasn't home too. Don't take it to heart and DON'T feel guilty!

Please don't feel guilty. You did the right thing. Your baby comes FIRST and if the other pharmacist doesn't like that he can shove it

My father always tells me if something happened to me, work could just replace me. So why risk it!. What if you had an accident and something happened to the baby?
You did the right thing - and you even followed protocol by calling in time.

Don't feel guilty! It's just your good work ethic! It gets me all the time. I just called out for my 4 hours of work tomorrow, and my boss gave me cr@p too, I am at the point where nothing else matters then my safety, health and that of baby.
You did the right thing
Screw em-they don't care about your safety, someone has to look out for you Like Kat said, you are replaceable at work, but your life or that of the baby's isn't.

You did the right thing. The roads will be bad for another day or two, I wouldn't have chanced it either!

That is one thing I hate about being a pharmacist. The guilt you get when you don't show up at work no matter how legit the reason.
You totally did the right thing!!!!!!
